Handicap Match: Andre the Giant & Cien Caras vs. Alfonso Dantes/Herodes/Sangre Chicana (1981)

 

 

- I thought this was really awesome. Saying it was too one-sided is really really simplifying things and ignoring the best parts of the match. It was a comedy match and Andre dominated but he was supposed to. When Canek was in the ring, the heels controlled with simple but effective armwork... if only they could do something about that damn Giant. Andre's offense, even in the comedy routine, all looked hurty and he had the crowd in the palm of his hand. There weren't any blown spots and the story was pretty effective with Andre dominating the rudos, trying to help Canek but the ref kept missing the tags between Canek and Andre and this eventually led to the great nutshot that Canek took in the 2nd fall. I have no doubt this would not finish high if on the set but I also think it is a great Andre performance and perfectly captures what the Andre touring show was all about when the local hero brings him in to deal with evil heels. I think this is an easy pick because I enjoyed nearly the entire match. I know there was an Andre match that Phil loved because ANdre struts even though the match sucked. Andre is classic here and the match was pretty good with the story being told. Kris and SLL shot this down but if there is even one personal pick on this set, this is going on.

It's Cien Caras not Canek Will, that is better then mixing up Cota and Rocco. I thought this was fun and I liked the heels pinballing for all of Andre's shtick. I would have liked to see a little more Andre in peril, and I think I love heel Andre more then face Andre by a lot. I like this on the set as the perfect thing to finish 100, but I am fine with it getting on via Will's personal pick

Yeah like I said it needs to be on the set somehow just I didn't know as a nomination or an extra. If it gets on there I got no problem with it.

Bummed that Phil was more excited for a horrible Ultimate Warrior-Andre match more than this spectacle.

It's fine in the Landell/Freddy spot. If Will wants to put it there, he gets no argument from me. I'm just not putting it there myself. Should be on the set one way or another, though.
