They exchanged midsection attacks in the first fall, paying it off when Buddy collapsed and took the pin off an attempted bodyslam. Buddy started the second fall with a stomach claw, which Regal sold nicely and then reversed into his own claw. At that point, Buddy started fighting dirty, clawing Regal's eyes and raking his back. We then got a signature Buddy kip-up. He tossed Regal to the outside and played king of the mountain. Regal showed some nice fight with a flurry of punches on the apron. They played off the ending of the first fall, with Buddy collapsing on an attempted suplex but then rolling through to even the match. Third fall picked up with Buddy attacking the back and sending Regal to the floor on a huge bump. Buddy attempted an atomic drop on the floor but Regal blocked and hit his own. Both guys did an excellent job selling the accumulated damage once they were back in the ring. Sandy Barr took a ref bump, which left him unable to count when Regal hit his signature roll-up. Buddy took advantage with his own roll-up when Regal went to check the ref and got the win. This was such a logically tight match in that classic Portland fashion, with the falls flowing into one another and the spots playing off earlier moments. Regal was a guy with limited charisma, but he was certainly good enough here, selling the back work and showing fire when necessary. I wouldn't call this a top-of-the-ballot contender; it is, however, a great synopsis of Buddy and the promotion. Solid nomination. New Portland Disc 15
