Buddy Rose/Kim Song/Stan Stasiak vs. Steve Regal/Matt Borne/King Parsons (9/19/81)

This was a total blast. First fall was chaos, with Song doing dirty martial arts stuff, fun comedy spots highlighting Parsons' hard head and Regal and Borne delivering fiery babyface performances. For once, Buddy played more of a supporting role. But he took center stage in the second fall, working several fun sequences that ended with the babyfaces upstaging him. I loved the one where he strutted and did his cartwheel spot only to get caught by a Regal dropkick to the mouth. Borne punctuated the moment with a mocking strut on the apron. We also got some cool block and counters to Stasiak's heart punch. So when Regal got caught in the heel corner and took the punch to end the second fall, it resonated that much more. I've come to enjoy Stasiak -- such a weird looking guy but he was really expressive, laid in his shots and bumped better than you'd think. Anyhow, Regal didn't come out to start the third fall but then raced from the back with his fists taped a la Stasiak. The two of them brawled through the crowd to set up a taped-fist match for the Tuesday house show. So the match ended in a double countout with everyone brawling. That probably kept it from classic status, but damn I enjoyed watching. Easy nomination.

Buddy Rose & Kim Sung & Stan Stasiak vs. Matt Borne & Steve Regal & Iceman King Parsons - 1981/09/19 - Stasiak sorta sucks but they give over the idea that Parsons has a hard head. However, Sung vs. the faces was fun. Not enough Bddy Rose in this fall. Things pick up when Regal plays FIP and the heels work him over. I would hate to have Buddy Rose jumping on me while laying across the ropes. Stasiak’s entire offense is throwing the opponent out of the ring. Good thing the other two are there to keep it moving. Oh Christ, Stasiak gives Ice the nerve hold. At least he was pinned after the faces double team him. 2nd fall, Buddy Rose vs. Regal was fun. In fact, when Rose was in there, this was fun. When he wasn’t not so much. At least the finish played off Regal as the face who was punished the most as Stasiak gives him a heart punch and gets the pin. 3rd fall, match ends quickly with all 6 men brawling outside of the riing and the whole thing being thrown out. I’ll pass on this match.
