Posted October 22, 201312 yr comment_5568439 This was for Assassin and Oliver's tag titles. Adams and Sawyer started off with an appealing mix of flashy offense and solid arm control. I can't recall seeing them as a team before, but they won me over right away. After a few minutes, Oliver steered Adams into the heel corner, and he and Assassin went to work on the ribs. More solid work, with all of Assassin and Oliver's body shots looking painful. Adams finally whipped Oliver into the corner and drilled him with a superkick, which had Dutch Savage marking out on commentary. Sawyer looked great off the hot tag and took a huge bump over the top rope as Oliver briefly halted his momentum. Back in the ring, Sawyer managed to outmaneuver Assassin and pin him with a sunset flip. Excellent first fall. Adams and Sawyer started the second fall with more armwork, this time on Assassin. But the heels took control on Sawyer quickly and worked over his back. Sawyer had grown into a strong babyface worker. I loved his various attempts to fight out of the heel corner. He never got there, and Assassin and Oliver put him away with a double-team move while Barr was distracted with a frustrated Adams. Sawyer started the third fall back in peril. Adams ran off a tremendous string of offense when he finally took the hot tag, and we got a period of great action with all four guys fighting in the ring. Then Oliver recognized the time limit was nearing, so he started telling Assassin to get out of the ring and stall. This would be annoying if it happened all the time, but it felt like a smart way to piss off the crowd in this case. The people went nuts when Adams got his hands on Oliver again, but Rip's strategy worked, and the heels ran out the clock with the falls tied 1-1. Man, I loved this. I went in wanting to give it the benefit of the doubt because it was a non-Buddy match. But it needed no special accommodation. Easy nomination, and I'm sorry we don't have more of Sawyer and Adams as a team. New Portland Disc 24
