Posted October 27, 201311 yr comment_5569093 This was one of the more ballsy matches of the decade. I mean you had the pom-pom waving, streamer throwing schoolgirls who'd be fed on a diet of Chigusa/Dump melodrama and you go out there and wrestle a 35 minute serious wrestling match that borrows from just about every stylistic influence possible. The fact that the schoolgirls ate it up is a testament to how over these two were. This was much better than I expected. It came up somehow on my youtube feed and I kind of dreaded the prospect of watching it, but the time flew by. It's long and requires a lot of concentration and more pertinently they do not pause. Not for a second. There's a lot of cool shit in this match, especially the blocking they do, but they don't sell anything other than the actual stamina it took to work this. More people will hate this than like it, possibly, but as I was watching it I thought "do I really care that they're no selling all this shit?" Not really. It was an exciting match. I can say that without having a crisis of faith that I suddenly like spotty wrestling. It was kind of annoying how non-stop it was, in that no matter what move had been applied the person got right up and countered with one of their own, but it is what it is and I got through it without bailing on them. If ever there was a match that could've done with 2/3 falls this was probably it, but instead they went the 30 min time limit, were given five more minutes and then Asuka was awarded the match on a judge's decision. Love it or hate it, it was pretty epic and belongs on this hypothetical set for its fame if nothing else.
