Posted October 30, 201311 yr comment_5569725 I actually watched this not that long ago on youtube, but I'm rewatching it here, because I didn't write it up for whatever reason. This isn't heavily clipped but has some awkward and silly camera shots and effects. Brooks looks like the vagrant character from the Dennis The Menace live action film played by Christopher Lloyd, which is actually a pretty great look for a heel. The taped fist stuff is a pretty big deal in PR, so I didn't mind that this was all punches because that is what you would expect in a match like this. I also thought this was well put together with a clear shine section for Ayala, a period where Brooks returned fire and busted open with Ayala and then Ayala coming back with the help of the chain to bust up Brooks. Ayala is a pretty inconsistent striker as some of his stuff looks terrible and some of it looks pretty good, but I do think Brooks did a good job on the defensive trying to look vulnerable and make it all look good. Down the stretch they did a fun reset spot where both guys went low and Ayala hulked up with Brooks begging off, which led to the first real cage shots in the match. Brooks ends up on the ropes and you think he is done and he comes out of nowhere with this huge running knee strike that looks great and follows up with a big diving punch. He goes to the well one more time and ends up getting hit with a slam and then a great looking powerslam for the finish. Neither one of these guys is a favorite of mine, and I could see the pacing in this being off putting for some, but this is a good match in my eyes.
October 30, 201311 yr comment_5569743 Taped Fist Steel Cage Match: Hercules Ayala vs. Killer Tim Brooks (October 1985) Both men juice here as the taped fists are not the only thing used here as Ayala breaks out a chain to bust up Brooks. There are some really good punches thrown here but everything else here is just okay nothing more nothing less. Not a nomination.
December 27, 201311 yr comment_5577477 Basically, this is two guys punching each other really hard causing them to bleed. It's a taped fist match so that's what anyone would expect. My favorite spot of the match before the finish which was great was Brooks covering up his face boxing style while Ayala threw jabs at him in the corner. Brooks had this really awesome measured punches that looked like they connected more often than not. I liked Ayala making a comeback with his chain and bloodying Brooks that way. Brooks gets tossed into the cage a few times which were the only times the cage was used. Brooks big knee looked cool to cut off Ayala and I liked his stomps to the head. The finishing powerslam looked fucking awesome and the pop for Ayala's win was great. I'm on the side of the pacing being off putting however this is a taped fist match with great punches, blood, and a great finish. That's plenty enough for a nomination. LOW END/SOLID nomination.
