July 26, 200520 yr comment_2988558 There's actually been rumblings of another west coast team in the running for Dunn, as rumors of the A's offering a package including Jairo Garcia have started to circulate. If Beane pulled that off, I think the A's would have to be a favorite to take over the lead in the West, let alone make it into the Wild Card.

July 26, 200520 yr comment_2989195 Tom Verducci is reporting that Manny Ramirez is demanding a trade. *again* Maybe he'll go to the Chicago Cubs! We could use his antics in the outfield. I wouldn't know what to do watching him fuck shit up in the field on a damn near daily basis.
July 26, 200520 yr comment_2989412 Manny's a great player, but good lord, he's clearly an ignorant person.
July 27, 200520 yr comment_2989730 Matt Clement just took a linedrive off the side of the head. He's still down the Sox announcers are dead silent. I can honestly say this is the first time my jaw has literally dropped from something that happened in a sporting event.
July 27, 200520 yr comment_2991232 Thankfully, a CAT scan turned out negative and he was alert the whole time. He'll be in the hospital overnight for evaluation. That was DAMN scary, but Bryce Florie taking a line drive to the EYE and leaving a pool of blood on the mound was worse. That was a WEIRD game. The Sox folded like a cheap tent from the point Clement left to the bottom of the 9th and then wake up (though Sveum AGAIN fucked up sending Olerud on that Mueller double) but still have to hold on to win. They're still playing like crap and they won't hold on to first for long if this keeps up. Manny Delcarmen came in as well and looked pretty good. This kid can throw some good stuff. Threw a 95 MPH fastball and followed it up with a changeup at 75.
July 27, 200520 yr comment_2991670 Congrats to Greg Maddux for his 3,000th career strikeout. Not much of a deal was made of it by the media, but it's still a milestone to give a fair amount of attention to.
July 27, 200520 yr comment_2991782 also congrats to mike cameron for his 3,000th career strikeout in the 7th inning in coors field down by 2 runs with the bases jacked. and for his next one in the 9th inning with Reyes at second base representing the tying run. 0-5 with 4K's batting in the 2 hole. you flaming piece of crap.
July 27, 200520 yr Author comment_2991905 Good god what a night at Scranton. I arrived at 3:45pm for the 5pm doubleheader. First game went a little over two hours and saw Gavin Floyd pitch reasonably well. One walk and four strikeouts is certainly encouraging. Caught my first foul ball. Had an interesting exchange with my partner... "Did you see that Johnny Podres is working with Gavin Floyd now?" "Yeah, he's over there." *points over to the next section* So at the seventh inning stretch, I got Johnny Podres' autograph. The Ottawa Lynx took game one 7-1, but the real fun came in the second. The second game was scheduled for seven innings, and a brief thunderstorm rolled in during the sixth inning. We had a 45 minute rain delay, and with two outs and two on in the seventh, Anthony Medrano smashed a ball down the line that went under the third baseman and scored the tying runs. The Lynx would win 5-4 as the game went 9 innings anyway, ending at 11:45. In total, I ended up at the park for eight full hours.
July 27, 200520 yr Author comment_2992028 And for those of you who don't know Johnny Podres... http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B10040NYA1955.htm
July 27, 200520 yr comment_2992118 Quiet, Al. The Padres are never going to win again. And the Macias love bites the Cubs in the ass (again), as he comes up with runners at the corners with two outs in a tied game in the 8th and flies out. He came in as a defensive substitution for Hairston. God only knows why, but jeez. Hawkins must feel like a tool right now, too.
July 27, 200520 yr comment_2992396 Note to self: never stay up late to watch the Cubs play if you have to be up in the morning. It's not worth it.
July 27, 200520 yr comment_2994741 Steve Phillips is a king of all morons. Proposed Trade on Cold Pizza: Yankees and Red Sox swap Manny for Tom Gordon and Gary Sheffield what an idiot
July 27, 200520 yr comment_2995816 Steve Phillips is a king of all morons. Proposed Trade on Cold Pizza: Yankees and Red Sox swap Manny for Tom Gordon and Gary Sheffield what an idiot Yeah really, they would never work together, I don't think. Boston won't give their most hated rival MANNY RAMIREZ. Ditto with Yankees and Sheff.
July 27, 200520 yr comment_2997997 Dodgers can hand the Marlins Jeff Weaver and one of the many Jason's on the team for Burnett and Lowell. They need a 3rd baseman badly along with a reliable (i.e. good) pitcher like Burnett. I also hope the Dodgers do wind up getting Dunn. He's a whiff king but he's young (25) and can improve his game.
July 27, 200520 yr comment_2998129 Gammons talked about a trade rumor on Baseball Tonight that had Dunn going to the Athletics for a few major and minor leaguers (the notables being Juan Cruz and motherfucking Kurt Suzuki, who Gammons said would move to the majors next season). Man, if I were the Reds, I'd be packing Dunn's bags right NOW.
July 27, 200520 yr comment_2998180 Dunn's strikeout rates are highly over-analyzed. He's got the power numbers of a budding superstar and a great OBP. His .240ish batting average isn't exactly at Todd Hollandsworth levels, ya know?
July 27, 200520 yr comment_2998745 Cubs win in their last at-bat for the second time in three games. Although the tying run was later unearned, it was Hawkins who gave up the hit, and thus, every tying run that scored for the Cubs in this series was his. Weird.
July 27, 200520 yr comment_2999474 - Yankees claim Hideo Nomo off waivers. They need starters, but this should be fun. - D-Back DFA Jose Cruz Jr. Kinda suprising, since he was one of their better hitters at times. Some slumps had him falling out of favor, there, I guess. They're moving Shawn Green to center and Chad Tracy to right. This will no doubt be a mess.
July 27, 200520 yr comment_2999704 also congrats to mike cameron for his 3,000th career strikeout in the 7th inning in coors field down by 2 runs with the bases jacked. and for his next one in the 9th inning with Reyes at second base representing the tying run. 0-5 with 4K's batting in the 2 hole. you flaming piece of crap. Intially, I had a minor issue with the Mets using Cameron as trade bait, but not anymore. Kick his ass to the curb.

As for Cruz Jr., Jocketty better be on the phone, if for no other reason than that we're an Edmonds injury away from starting the Memphis Redbirds outfield.
July 28, 200520 yr comment_3000647 Jesus Christ, Mac's so overprotective of pitchers you'd think he was saving them for a pennant chase. Zach Duke and his 0.84 ERA starts against the Marlins, he pitches about 3 innings, then gets yanked after a rain delay in favor of Ryan "Millions of HRs Served" Vogelsong. Who promptly gives up a 2 run homer.

On baseballprospectus they said the Cardinals were interested in Matt Lawton and Eric Byrnes. I like the Lawton idea, we need some help with all these injuries.
July 28, 200520 yr comment_3002186 I doubt we hear any backlash for LaRussa leaving in Marquis to finish off the game, even though that meant hitting a new career high with 132 pitches. Padres finally snap their eight-game losing snap, but Jake Peavy doesn't get the decision, even though he went eight and struck out 10. In Baltimore, it was a test to see whose bullpen could go an inning without giving up a run. Rangers were down 5-0, tied it, went up by one, had it tied, went up by two in the ninth, had it tied in the bottom of the frame, and finally won it with a three-run shot in the 11th. I doubt it gets much attention, but the O's had a chance to win in the previous inning, but Sosa was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a single from second. He threw the spikes up pretty high into the chest of the catcher, who immediately let him have it. Could've been ugly.
