July 30, 200520 yr comment_3025728 Ah, but the Yankees are still in the mindset that veteran (read: washed up and couldn't hold a roster spot on the Devil Rays) talent like Hideo Nomo will carry you in October.
July 30, 200520 yr comment_3026800 Boy, as if Embree didn't have enough going against him before he took the mound. It's 7-5 now, but with K-Rod out there, well, I won't jinx things. O's blow another lead and are now below .500. I'd have to say they and the Nats have fallen the furtherest in their respective league.
July 30, 200520 yr comment_3026952 Mabry with a two-run jack off of Lowe makes it 5-1 Cardinals in the 4th. Boy, as if Embree didn't have enough going against him before he took the mound. It's 7-5 now, but with K-Rod out there, well, I won't jinx things. Well, K-Rod promptly loaded up the bases with one out and A-Rod at the plate. 2-0 count so far.
July 30, 200520 yr comment_3026964 This is only okay if the A's beat Detroit. What a chokejob by K-Rod.
July 30, 200520 yr comment_3027051 I think it's actually a little bit of revenge from the baseball gods for K-Rod's celebration a week or so ago. Instant Karma's gonna get you.
July 30, 200520 yr comment_3027052 It was good to see him blow a save against us, after all the celebrations when he gets the job done. EDIT: Heh.
July 30, 200520 yr comment_3027461 Cubs have to be one of the worst hitting teams with RISP and less than two outs. Runners at second and third with one out in a tied game and they don't score. A definite growing trend on this homestand. I guess it needs to get hot again so they can starting hitting their homers.
July 30, 200520 yr comment_3027786 There's something wrong with these fucking umpires, since when is a player awarded first base after putting his entire body in front of a pitch right over the plate? (taveras who is smiling like a cheap bitch at first base)
July 31, 200520 yr comment_3028072 GABE KAPLER returns and comes up with a single in the 2nd (after a lengthy standing ovation) that leads to him scoring the sole run. Sox are now up 2-0.
July 31, 200520 yr comment_3033051 Man, this place is booming lately. RIP Washington Nationals...after they finish getting swept by the Marlins they will fall into 3rd place in the NL East and Wildcard behind the Marlins and won't sniff a higher position for the rest of the year. They will finish in last place in the NL East. Just as I've been saying all along.
July 31, 200520 yr comment_3033331 That's what they call regression to the mean. I think I heard Olney and Generic ESPN guy say something on BBTN about how the Nationals are scoring 2.8 runs a game now. Under three runs a game for an offense whose cornerstone player is Jose Guillen? Shocking. Also, Giambi just mashed his 14th home run in July off of Chris Bootcheck. Mind you, that's 14 home runs in an abbreviated month, with the All-Star Break.
July 31, 200520 yr comment_3033476 These umps for the Mets/Astros series have been awful. Ensberg heads to first on Ball 3, after apparently the homeplate ump said it was Ball 4. Confusion ensued and Berkman (who was at first) was tagged out. Ump admitted he made a mistake so everyone was safe and half the Mets' coaching staff got tossed.
July 31, 200520 yr comment_3034729 I think MLB will be knocking on Giambi's door with a plastic cup tomorrow. Just as a "check-up". Pretty good start from Papelbon today, though he seemed to lose control a bit towards the end. Kid throws some gas though. And, naturally, Manny comes back to pinch hit and wins the game.
July 31, 200520 yr Author comment_3035346 Marlon Byrd has been optioned to the Nats' AAA affiliate. The way Byrd's been playing, the Phillies could probably acquire him for someone crappy like Endy Chavez.
July 31, 200520 yr comment_3035604 But he was good last year! I can't believe how when the Cards have their backs pressed against the wall and NEED to make a play, they do it.
July 31, 200520 yr comment_3035687 Eldred was definitely on a wire there, but he managed to dig it out, thanks to Tracy's master strategy of taking the bat out of the hands of his two best hitters. He's looked really great since coming back from a near case of death earlier in the year. King, however, is in Embree territory now. He hasn't had it all year and graduated from coughing up tight games to coughing up three run leads. I would have liked to have seen them make a play for Groom, just for insurance, but too late now.
