This is a low end nomination. Of course this is escape the cage rules. We get a slugfest to start. We get a lot of Valentine attempts at escape. They really do milk these for maximum effect. Backlund takes some bumps into the cage. A great near escape occurs after he takes Bob's atomic drop. The crowd is super hot for this. Valentine starts working the leg. Valentine gets the fig 4. WE get a Backlund reversal. Valentine is bumping hard into the cage now. Bob is cheese grating Valentine into the cage and he's busted open. Bob nails a swank Piledriver and walks out the winner. This was a really good escape the cage match.

BOB BACKLUND vs GREG VALENTINE-CAGE (01/16/1982; WWF Philadelphia Spectrum; 00:26:58)
-    Around 3:43 in the drive, Bob hits Hammer with one of the hardest strikes I have seen in a wrestling match. Just brutal. Bob is beating up on Hammer to start. Bob tries to escape and they battle on top. Hammer punches Bob in the stomach and pulls his hair to get him off the cage. Bob just thumps to the floor. Hammer wants out and Bob gets him down. Great spot, Hammer tries a headbutt but Bob dodges and Hammer hits the cage. Then Bob pushes his foot against Hammer’s head against the cage. Brutal. Bob gets rammed into the cage and Hammer takes over. Valentine almost escapes and Bob only has the ankle to keep Greg in. Great spot. Hammer is pissed and rams Bob against the cage then chokes him with his foot. Another awesome segment as Bob atomic drops Hammer who hits the bottom turnbuckle but also gets the door open at the same time so Hammer almost escapes. Bob tries to escape and he’s only stopped by Hammer holding his ankle. Inside, Hammer works on the leg and hooks in a figure 4. They sat in it for a long time. If Bob can stand, it wasn’t worth it. They end up battling on top of the cage and both tumble down. Hammer wants Bob to stay down and drops the elbows. Finally late in the match, Greg is bleeding and Bob rakes him across the cage. Bob tries to escape several times but hits a pieldriver to finally get out. That piledriver was SICK. One of the best ever. I thought this was a STRONG NOMINATION but the blood came late and they could have trimmed about 5 minutes off. This was still a worthy addition to the set.
