Dusty says that Kevin Sullivan has been training him and he winning all the belts. Fun stuff. Sonny King is out next for a promo talking about the Wild Samoans. I loved King's "Black Kojak" gimmick. The Wild Samoans (Afa & Sika) vs. Randy Barber & Mike Jackson Squash. Next we get promos from Tommy Rich & Mr. Wrestling II followed up by the Freebirds. Paul Orndorff vs. Carl Styles This is one of Carl's first matches. Buzz Sawyer comes out to watch as Orndorff beats Styles easily. Then we get the epic meeting of the champions in Bob Backlund & Ric Flair where they talk about their match the next night at The Omni. This is a slam dunk extra. Next we get a promo from Ole Anderson & Stan Hansen about their match the next night with Ivan Putski & Tommy Rich before being joined by a crazy Muraco. Magnificent Muraco vs. Dale Veasy Squash. Tommy "Wildfire" Rich vs. Pete Martin Easy win for Tommy and then Ole & Hansen show up but Putski comes out to even the odds with promos from everyone to follow. Ole Anderson & Stan "The Lariat" Hansen vs. Joe Powell & Tom Prichard Prichard is fiery and spunky here but the NWA tag champs win fairly easily. Orndorff comes out next for a promo before Buzz comes out throwing out a challenge for the title. Mr. Wrestling II vs. "Golden Boy" Chick Donovan There is some pretty good back and forth action here as Donovan gave II as good as he got here. II was solid working holds on the mat and Chick was hanging with him making this quite even. II would win with seconds left on the clock with a variation of an Arn Anderson spinebuster of all things. This was a fun TV match and I'm putting this up as a low-end nomination. Muraco is out next for another crazed promo about Dusty. The Fabulous Freebirds (Terry Gordy & Michael Hayes) vs. Pete Martin & Dale Veasy The jobbers give a fight when Hayes is in the ring but the Birds dominate in the end. Gordy almost breaks Veasy's neck with his modified powerbomb. Sonny King is out next and says that he wants the National Tag Titles and invites the Birds to join him which of course they declined. The Wild Samoans (Afa & Sika) vs. Tony Gennacero & Rick Thor Total squash. Muraco then cuts another crazed promo followed up by a retort from Dusty who rips up a nice black Ralph Lauren polo. Magnificent Muraco vs. Randy Barber Squash. Orndorff is out next for a promo talking about defending his National title. Brad Armstrong vs. Chick Donovan Good back and forth action here with Chick yet again showing he could hang with guys getting bigger pushes than he was. Brad was entering his 2nd full year as a pro and you could tell he had the potential. Chick thought he had Brad ready to put away but Brad would get a desperation schoolboy to get the win. Really fun match and I'm passing this on as a low-end pick. Then we get a promo from Bob & Brad where Bill Apter talks about them being the only father and son to win the ROTY award. Next we get Backlund & Flair back out together where they watch and analyze film of the other one. Definite extra. Then we get a promo from the Superstar about his match with II the next night followed up by Ole & Hansen then Putski & Rich. Tom Prichard vs. Mike Jackson Good little showcase match for these two. I always dug when Jackson got to work even against scientific guys. TV time would run out before the finish.
