Posted December 18, 201311 yr comment_5576584 Chavo Guerrero & Bib Bubba vs. J.R. Hogg & The Biker Solid competitive squash, with Chavo looking good as usual, Bubba looking pretty solid for a change, and both jobbers taking some nice bumps for them. Hogg's entrance gear makes him look like the bastard child of Jimmy Valiant and a Nasty Boy. Nick Kiniski vs. The Samoan Meh. Ox Baker Interview He's gonna be in the big battle royale at the Battle of the Alamo. Gotta love the homemade "OX BAKER IS #1 IN TEXAS" t-shirt. Chavo Guerrero Interview Dale Veasey & Little Tokyo Interview They hype upcoming house show matches. Steve Stacks' podium doesn't look too sturdy. Pepper Gonzalez is there, too, but thankfully says nothing. Up Close with Al Madril Al promises to keep cool as long as Stacks and Rapido don't ask any "personal questions"...which means this isn't that interesting until the very end, when Stacks presses the issue as to why Madril "switched sides", causing him to blow up and storm off. The New American Force & Joe Lightfoot vs. Mike Golden & The Hoods Pretty brief, but fine for what it was. Golden had a nice jumping headbutt to a downed Diamond. Al Madril Interview Chavo has apparently broken Madril's hand. Big Bubba Interview/Al Madril responds Bubba and New American Force are gonna face HAM. Bubba calls The Hoods "the Lee Brothers: Home Lee and Ug Lee". Madril calls the faces "Porky and his two Dorkies" and calls the Force "cheese champions" multiple times. I swear to God, I have no idea why Fritz ran this man as a white meat babyface for so many years. Hector Guerrero Interview Al Madril takes a moment to yell about another Guerrero coming in before we cut to a promo taped in Florida where a somberero-clad Hector makes his introduction while mariachi music plays in the background. In a fed that's always had a heavy Latin presence, I'm not sure why they're portraying Hector as being especially Mexican here, but whatever. Dale Veasey vs. Rick McCord These two match up well, and I thought this was borderline nomination material despite some iffy spots and an odd finish (though Veasey gave the ref a nice shot to the face, which kinda sold it for me). Good power vs. speed/technique stuff. Dale Veasey Interview Veasey takes umbrage with the finish of the above match. Ox Baker Interview Pretty sure it's the same one from earlier in the disk. New American Force vs. The Samoan & The Biker Uneventful squash. New American Force Interview They're going to be teaming with Great Kabuki against Tim Brooks, J.R. Hogg, and Ox Baker. Chavo Guerrero & The New American Force vs. HAM JIP from house show footage provided by Madril to show how Chavo broke his hand. Al Madril vs. Nick Kiniski Madril throws out an open challenge to prove how tough he is by fighting through his injury. It's answered by Kiniski who hilariously uses "Mickey" as his theme music. Madril is fun rushing him early, but Kiniski is such a nothing wrestler that it can only do so much. Madril gets DQ'd after using his cast as a weapon, which he was explicitly told beforehand he couldn't do. Al Madril Interview He's super-pissed now, and he's gunning for Chavo. Up Close with Chavo Guerrero Chavo talks a lot about his background, including being a wrestling coach at Jefferson High School, where he claims to have coached a young Manny Fernandez. Wikipedia says Fernandez went to Lincoln High School, so make of that what you will. He also talks about his family, including youngest brother Eddie who just got into University of New Mexico on an athletic scholarship, and whom we can expect to see in the pros real soon. Then he and Steve Stacks go over the final line-up for the Battle of the Alamo battle royale, and they do a good job putting everyone over as a legit contender to win. Chavo Guerrero Interview/J.R. Hogg responds Hogg was basically a jobber at this point, so kinda surprising to see him get mic time opposite the top face in the territory. Battle of the Alamo Hype Series of promos from guys who will be in the battle royale. Most of these are taken from interviews we've seen already. J.R. Hogg vs. Manuel Villalobos Looks like Hogg is starting to get a push as he makes quick work of Villalobos. J.R. Hogg Interview That man has some unfortunate front teeth. Also, "They're outclassed! They're out of their class!" Joe Lightfoot & Pepper Gonzalez vs. Mike Golden & Little Tokyo Mike Golden Interview The match was fucking with nomination territory for a second. It doesn't get there, but I like this as an extra. I don't know why babyface Lightfoot tried to charge Little Tokyo before the bell, but Tokyo's over the top mocking of him while the ref held him back was great. Gonzalez is a bit better in the ring than on the mic. He throws some hard shots, but also looks lost at times and had a really anemic airplane spin. Little Tokyo is the shit, though, and he held it together, including shooting a single-leg into an airplane spin of his own, which I marked out for. Lightfoot and Golden's exchange was good, though it feels like the ref should've been less oblivious to Golden and Fantasy's cheating. Hot tag to Gonzalez, but instead of tagging out to Tokyo like he's supposed to, Golden shamelessly punts a midget. He tries to slam him, but Lightfoot dropkicks Pepper on top of him, and the mini scores the pin over the real boy. Golden is having none of that, though, and socks Pepper with a hard shot to the head before KO'ing Lightfoot with Fantasy's loaded purse. Then he slaps a bleeding Pepper Gonzalez in the figure four while Tokyo brutally stomps on the wound until Nick Kiniski clears them both out. Totally awesome. Chavo Guerrero & Scott Casey Interview Casey is planning on using the $100,000 prize money from the upcoming battle royale to buy some quarter-horses. Chavo is thinking about getting a new porch. Big Bubba Interview/Al Madril responds Hyping an upcoming match. Chavo Guerrero Interview A major earthquake had just gone down in Mexico, and Steve Stacks informs us that a member of the San Antonio city council will be at the Battle of the Alamo with the Guardian Angels to collect donations to help those affected. Chavo cuts a promo mostly in Spanish, I presume asking for fans to donate. Bib Bubba vs. Blackjack Dillon Scott Casey on commentary says Dillon is over 300 lbs., which looks a bit generous to me. Then again, he's working opposite Bubba. Bubba does get nice height on his splash, I must say. Big Bubba Interview One Man Gang Interview Ox Baker Interview Skandor Akbar Interview Gang, Baker, and Kamala are coming after Bubba. Tom Jones vs. Al Madril Fun little match. Madril heels it up with lots of cheapshots and ref distraction spots. Jones throws some good punches on nicely timed comebacks. Al Madril Interview Scott Casey is gonna be his stepping stone to revenge on Chavo Guerrero. Hector Guerrero Interview "Sound the mariachis!" Seriously, why is his Mexican-ness being played up so much more than Chavo's? It's like if, after years of Bret Hart being in the WWF, Owen had debuted doing a Jos LeDuc tribute gimmick. New American Force vs. Dale Veasey & J.R. Hogg Hogg is from STOMPING GROUNDS, KENTUCKY. This man has become completely amazing to me. Paul Diamond's shirt is presumably for a local high school, but the word "HIGH" is so much bigger than all the other words on it, it feels like he got ribbed. This is really fun, and with more time, I might've nominated it. Veasey had a great looking fallaway slam and a dropkick, Hogg did some good clubbering and splatted himself nicely on a missed second-rope splash at the end, and Michaels and Diamond continue to do their thing well. Up Close with Ernie Ladd A very pleasant conversation until Stacks brings up Chavo Guerrero and Ernie flips his shit. New American Force Interview/The Hoods respond Hood interviews are not as interesting when they're not built around the identical mask gimmick. Battle of the Alamo Hype Bobby Fulton shows off his fluency in Spanish, Ernie Ladd reminds us this will be the third most important event of our lives (per his previous interview, the first was the birth of our mother and the second was the birth of our father), Scott Casey reveals the depths he'd sink to to win ("I'd shhot my horse! I'd kick my kid!"), and a cameo from Marc Lowrance! Chavo Guerrero & Scott Casey vs. The Hoods This gets a bit more time than your average TASW TV match. Unfortunately, The Hoods are pretty unremarkable workers. Good offensive showcase for the faces in the first part of the match, but nothing special overall.
