Posted August 1, 200520 yr comment_3040193 Hollywood star Charlize Theron forced movie bosses to change her costume design for forthcoming movie Aeon Flux - after deciding her character's original outfit was too revealing. When Theron saw the superheroine's skimpy crime-fighting outfit of a bikini, thigh-high boots and shoulder pads, she decided to add trousers to the outfit. The 29-year-old star admits, "When you're playing with aspects of sexuality, certain things have to be hidden. That's what my mother always used to tell me. I wanted to stay as true as possible to the original character, but didn't feel the need to go as far with the costume." The sci-fi movie, based on the comic book adaptation, is due to be released in the autumn. You gotta love when an actress (who probably never heard of Aeon before agreeing to the movie) accepts a role then decides things need to be changed to suit her needs.
August 1, 200520 yr comment_3040388 I actually saw some stills from the set a few weeks ago and it totally slipped my mind. But yeah, the outfit she had on didn't even slightly resemble what Aeon wore in the cartoon. Now I expected that, simply because to make an outfit like that one would require some real creativity as far as wardrobe and yes, would be more than a little revealing. But I figured what I saw just happened to be a scene where Aeon wasn't dressed like the whore she is. Turns out this Charlize bitch wanted it this way. I know it's a minor quibble but seriously, you can't allow actresses to just come in, make demands AND get their way. This is exactly why I pushed for Angelina Jolie to play Aeon over Theron. Poo on all of you who disagreed with me back then. Jolie knows her place -- eye candy. And she has no problem baring it all for the sake of "the project." I guess next Charlize'll demand that Aeon needs to not kill people and take up knitting and golf instead.
August 1, 200520 yr Author comment_3040438 I mean, I didn't expect her (or the studio) to go with the strap-up-the-ass Aeon wears, I was thinking they'd probably go with a bikini bottom. Shit, Angelina should have had this role. She didn't say Lara Croft should wear a sweater and sweatpants. She knows when you're supposed to whore it up.
August 15, 200520 yr comment_3175755 I don't even have a strong memory of the outfit, so It's not an issue for me. Either way this won't make or break the film, It's just some extra material. Of course, I always hated the cartoon, so what the hell do I know.
August 16, 200520 yr comment_3183269 Eh, to be honest, I don't think it's going to matter one way or the other. I'm not expecting this movie to make a ton of money if you know what I mean. Afterall, how big was Aeon Flux to being with? They might as well make a movie about The Head.
August 19, 200520 yr comment_3209308 The Theatrical Trailer is up at Apple.com now. Doesn't look bad but I can't say it looks good, either. For some reason, I did mark out when I saw Jonny Lee Miller but then I realized it was Theron playing Aeon and not Angelina Jolie like I wanted. So much for that Hackers reunion.
August 19, 200520 yr comment_3209849 Can I just say that I can't be the only one that wasn't impressed at all with the trailer and not even curious as to seeing more about the film. Wasn't all that interesting at all.
August 19, 200520 yr comment_3211982 I'll agree that it doesn't look like one of those movies that comes along every few years that completely redefines a genre but it does look as if they are trying to do some new things and I can respect that. Some of the sets, special effects, stunts, fight choreography and wirework didn't look all that bad. The best thing I can say about the trailer is that it looks as if the filmmakers did at least attempt to retain some of the look, feel and plot elements of the original cartoon series. I never watched much of the television show, only the Liquid TV shorts but it was sort of a hoot to see certain animated sequences I remember from back in the day brought to life in live-action in this preview. I'm not expecting much but this could possibly be a lazy Saturday morning matinee for me, just out of sheer curiosity and my love for Aeon. I've seen plenty worse (XXX: State of the Union & Alien vs. Predator) this past year or so.
August 19, 200520 yr comment_3213381 I really dug a shop display I saw for the DVD of "Alien v. Predator". It said "who wins? Buy this DVD and find out!" which by all accounts I would have found more entertaining than the DVD itself.
December 2, 200520 yr Author comment_4048875 There's no way Aeon Flux can translate well to live action, I just don't see it. Interestingly enough, I noticed the movie is rated PG-13, which means that the Aeon outfit was probably redesigned by the studios to keep the rating and the story that started this thread was probably planted to keep the fanboys from saying the studio ruined the movie. Hell, if they released the original cartoons to theaters they'd probably want to slap an R rating on it.
December 6, 200520 yr comment_4077047 A day after Aeon Flux arrived in theaters, the newspaper reviews arrived at front doors. They were everything the studio, Paramount, apparently expected when it decided not to allow critics to get an advance look at it. "It doesn't make a whole lot of sense," A.O. Scott wrote in Saturday's New York Times, thereby succinctly describing the reaction of most other reviewers. Lou Lumenick in the New York Post went so far as to brand it as "by far the year's worst movie." Commented Bob Longino in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: "Aeon Flux [is] as enjoyable as acid reflux." Several reviewers concluded that Aeon Flux is for Academy Award winner Charlize Theron what Catwoman was for Academy Award winner Halle Berry ... a dreadful blotch on her r?sum?. Observing that Theron has become the latest actress to squander her "Oscar clout by appearing in terrible films" Misha Davenport in the Chicago Sun-Times wrote, "Quicker than you can say Oscar Mayer, today's Oscar winners become tomorrow's wieners." Nevertheless, a few reviewers praised the film, some of them obviously realizing that they were standing against the tide. "There's no way to say it but to come right out with it: Aeon Flux is a good movie. Actually, it's a really good movie," wrote Tom Maurstad in the Dallas Morning News. And Roger Moore in the Orlando Sentinel concluded with this left-handed compliment: "It's just a good looking, empty-headed, empty-hearted sci-fi failure. And there's no shame in that."
