Posted August 15, 200520 yr comment_3174656 In order to get something fun and exciting going, I have decided to create a new prediction contest here at NMB. The idea is for posters to select a pitcher from the day's list of probable starters. The object is to pick the pitcher who collects the best performance that day. Now, let me lay down the ground rules. -We run the contest every Wednesday and Saturday. -Each poster selects one pitcher for the next contest day. No two posters may select the same pitcher, and choices are first come, first served. You can not select the same pitcher twice in the year. So if you select Al Leiter for Wednesday, you can not use him again the rest of the year. -If your pitcher earns the highest game score for the day, you earn five points. If your pitcher picks up a win, you earn three points. And if your pitcher collects a quality start (6 IP, 3 ER) you earn one point. Points for the day are NOT cumulative, so if your pitcher earns a win and quality start, you only get points for the highest goal. -You can check any schedule page on Yahoo, Mlb.com, or espn.com for future probable starters. Each selection period begins at the conclusion of the day's games on Wednesday or Saturday, for the next contest day. Now, let me explain how Game Scores work. Game Scores are a Bill James statistic, and completely objective. To determine the starting pitcher's Game Score: Start with 50. Add 1 point for each out recorded by the starting pitcher. Add 2 points for each inning the pitcher completes after the fourth inning. Add 1 point for each strikeout. Subtract 2 points for each hit allowed. Subtract 4 points for each earned run allowed. Subtract 2 points for an unearned run. Subtract 1 point for each walk. I hope that's clear. If there are any questions, feel free to ask. Otherwise, begin posting your selections for Wednesday.

August 18, 200520 yr comment_3200036 A 68...not bad for a guy like Moyer who isn't exactly a stud pitcher in the league of a Clemens or Willis.
August 18, 200520 yr Author comment_3200234 And now theAnvil's dark horse pick is up to 77 through six innings in Colorado. Do you believe in miracles?
August 18, 200520 yr comment_3201468 Looks like i get the honor of having the worst pick, 37 with Dan Haren. Why i chose him ahead of guys like Santana and Zambrano i'll never know.
