Yes yes, what a find... 10 minutes of straight up amateur style matwork, all working for pin attempts. Apparently this was one of Ricky's first matches and mit makes sense to work an amateur match against a young wrestler with an amateur background. Lots of close quarter fighting and very much not clean breaking in the ropes to add intensity. Ricky had all the cool takedowns, but Sonny made for a strong antagonist against the spry young face. My favourite move may have been the cravate/cradle thing Ricky tried. Dug all the rolling around.

This was all matwork, but the matwork is excellent, so I can hardly complain! Ricky Morton looks like a baby here as he takes on the grizzled Sonny King. This was a young upstart versus the salty veteran. The tension builds up as the match goes and no wrestler is able to score an advantage. King does a great job of showing his frustration as the match goes on. This had a proto-shoot-style vibe to it. It's all grappling! The ten-minute time limit ends up expiring just as Morton had King rolled up in a sunset flip. The ten minutes just flew by and I didn't even mind this going to a non-finish.  ★★★¼

Sonny King vs Ricky Morton

I didn’t really care for this at all. Felt more like two guys scuffling about than a professional wrestling match. They spent a lot of time prone on the mat trying to lock on holds with neither one able to gain any advantage. The most notable events were King taking his sweet time to break holds or get to his feet when they ended up in the ropes. Ended up in a 10 minute time limit draw which was far too long for the match they had laid out.
