Posted August 17, 200520 yr comment_3190990 Meg and I went to see March of the Penguins last Friday at a local theatre. The film is essentially a nature documentary, yet it stands head and shoulders above almost anything else every shot in that genre. The pictures are absolutely spectacular, and the film shows a tale of survival and determination we rarely view up close in the animal kingdom. The film is now the #2 highest grossing non-concert documentary film of all time. Has anyone else seen this flick?
August 17, 200520 yr comment_3191209 I saw the trailer and I had no clue what the movie was about. Now that you say is was basically a nature documentary, it makes a lot more sense. I didn't know if it was a Disney movie with talking penguins or what the fuck was going on.
August 17, 200520 yr comment_3191277 beautifully shot, and penguins are cute, but the film goes to pretty absurd lengths to tease so much humanity and warmth out of what is essentially a hard and pitiless existence. it's extraordinarily well-made and a lot of fun to watch, but people are taking this movie way more seriously than it should be taken. for an interesting answer to this kind of philosophy of nature, see werner herzog's 'grizzly man'.
August 17, 200520 yr comment_3191609 I've been dying to watch this movie.. now, I think I'm going to most definitely check it out.
August 17, 200520 yr comment_3192582 I'm really not interested in the film, but I'm heavily rooting for it to come out of nowhere and miracously knock that fat piece of shit Michael Moore from the top spot in the box office history of documentaries. Only $80 million more to go....
