Harley Race vs. David Von Erich (8/23/81)

These two had a big TV match two years earlier that made David a big star in the city. This starts slow with DVE working a headlock on the mat but Harley would use his body as a weapon to work over David. Race would throw some bombs here trying to put away DVE and even used a tombstone piledriver for a nearfall. DVE to his credit kept fighting back as after taking a regular piledriver he bodyslammed Race off the top rope as he went for a diving headbutt. This has now turned into a total war of attrition with the battle going to the floor where Race slammed DVE's head on the ringside table but when they came back in the ring DVE got a piledriver of his own on Race which was followed by the iron claw with 5 minutes left in the match but Race would headbutt him in the stomach to break the hold. Race would miss a diving headbutt off the top which DVE countered with a jumping iron claw off the top and the fans are going nuts for this. Race would pull the referee into the mix which took him out and then he would chunk DVE to the floor where he dropped him with a brainbuster for a DQ. DVE sells the brainbuster like crazy as the fans are booing heavily and Race is up top whining about the ref calling for the DQ when Kerry shows up and throws Race off. Kerry then nails Race with a discus punch sending him flying to the floor. This was a fantastic match and a slam dunk nomination.
