March 21, 20187 yr comment_5836836 The early Thunder episodes would actually have angle advancement, but man did that show fall off a cliff fast. Much like Sunday Night Heat did. Great when it started up till Mania 15 then just no angles happened on the show.

Great when it started up till Mania 15 then just no angles happened on the show. I think Heat had some KOTR qualifying matches in 1999 and 2000, but yeah, the show basically became filler. OTOH, I was a big fan of the "b-team" shows like Jakked and Worldwide, so I still watched Heat pretty loyally.
March 21, 20187 yr comment_5836867 Every now and then Heat would still have a decent match or two in 2000/2001, especially during the Invasion period, when with the acquisition of the WCW guys there was a lot of talented workers where this was the only spot they could get on TV. As far as I recall it was the only time they faced off in WWE, but in the summer of 2001 RVD and Jerry Lynn had a pretty fun bout on Heat. The Triple H vs Hardcore Holly match from sometime in 2000 was decent too.
March 21, 20187 yr comment_5836869 I decided to throw on a random Thunder and I get Ernest Miller vs. Barry Darsow. THIS IS THE THUNDER I REMEMBER!!!

March 21, 20187 yr comment_5836878 Id just want Heat as a way to start putting up all the pre WMXXX PPV pre-show (and Coliseum Exclusives) material. Like Free For Alls, YouTube/.com stuff, etc.

March 21, 20187 yr comment_5836894 My fondest Thunder memory is a random match between Bret Hart Vs. Disco Inferno. I just remember when Bret slapped on the Sharpshooter it looked like he was killing Disco with it. Like the one he put on Jerry Lawler back in the day. I've wanted to see that match again since it first happened, so I could be able to get my chance now as soon as I find it. Also, there was a Thunder in my city where I was in one of the first few rows. So curious to see if I can find myself on camera. I remember Goldberg was there. And Scott Norton wrestled Chris Benoit.
March 21, 20187 yr comment_5836898 Is it at all notable that they cut this off right before the Russo era?
March 21, 20187 yr comment_5836904 Possibly, but it is also almost exactly halfway through the full run (146 episodes)
March 21, 20187 yr comment_5836926 Is it at all notable that they cut this off right before the Russo era? I thought that was odd too, it literally ends with the last episode before Bischoff was "demoted" on 9/10/99. Probably just a coincidence and the others will be up shortly too.

Looking at results so not sure the episode numbers are exactly the same on the Network, episode 52 has Bret and Disco among a very underwhelming lineup of matches. Norton and Benoit had singles matches on episodes 11 and 14, depends if you are Fargo or Terre Haute. Goldberg wrestled on both episodes also.
March 22, 20187 yr comment_5836975 I've been watching the WM 19 doc again on YouTube after hearing about it a little on the Prichard show on it this week. Using this as an example as I know they did it for more shows, but I wonder how much of the actual show was shot on film stock, and if they could put together a version of the show using just that footage.

March 22, 20187 yr comment_5837055 What I like about Thunder is what I like about a lot of WCW - never knowing who's coming through the curtain next. Even in the first episode, I wasn't expecting Tenzan to pop up in the 3rd bout. I like that sense of mystery and the random matches that can occur - like I dont think Disco Inferno vs the Disciple will be a good match, but I'm certainly curious to watch it.

March 24, 20187 yr comment_5837283 August 26, 1999 Thunder Rick Steiner vs. Spyder It's no secret that the Steiners were reckless with job guys but HOLY SHIT. I've never seen anyone give a piledriver where they let go of the guy after lifting them and fall with their hands completely free. And keep in mind this was done outside of the ring, with the MATS PULLED AWAY FROM THE CONCRETE! God damn, watch this match!
March 27, 20187 yr comment_5837755 WWE network news is reporting that WCW Saturday night will be added to the network on April 2nd. They don't know for certain but they think it's starting from 1992 and possibly 100 hours of it.
March 27, 20187 yr comment_5837788 It's starting with 1992. Shame as I'm a big fan of WCW 1990-91 and I was looking forward to those episodes.
March 27, 20187 yr comment_5837793 Its been very easy to see these over the years so Im not as excited as I was for something rarer but I am excited for the increased wrestling literacy of younger people more easily getting to see these.
March 27, 20187 yr comment_5837795 Yes! I'm fond of saying that on reddit it feels like the majority of users feel that anything before the Monday Night Wars was in the dark ages.
March 27, 20187 yr comment_5837806 Yes! I'm fond of saying that on reddit it feels like the majority of users feel that anything before the Monday Night Wars was in the dark ages. Hell look at the cagematch top lists that get posted and raved about on there and it seems they've never seen anything before 2000. While I can understand that being younger and not alive when this stuff happened is a valid reason the amount of people who go on and on about Kenny Omega and Okada being the best trilogy ever and some saying they are the greatest workers of all time as well as NJPW being the best it's ever been are just trumpeting the bare bones of Meltzer's opinions and comments. What irks me is pretty much the world of wrestling history has never been more easily accessible at a persons fingertips and it seems almost nobody like the people I've described make even the slightest effort to watch anyone or anything considered great from before 2000 or the late 90's. When I was around their age I would've killed to have all this stuff easily available but all I had was books from my library and whatever internet time at school and the occasional tape I could get in remote eastern Canada. What took me years of hunting down and studying to learn could be done in 1/4 of the time and done greater with all the resources the internet gives between social media, podcasts, file sharing and streaming especially YouTube.
