May 8, 20187 yr comment_5848192 Table for 3 with Styles, Angle and Shane was... surreal. I mean, I ways enjoy those guys just sitting there and talking, gives off a nice vibe. But then not only did they talk about Kurt vs. AJ in TNA, they even showed freaking footage of it, but in the end th even advertised the GWN. Perhaps this shouldn't be so much of a surprise, with Dixie appearing in the 24 on Angle, but still... Something I'd never have imagined i see.

I know quality of WCW tapes about not storing them properly but Vince owned WCW by this time as it was the final show so logically the quality should have been the same as Raw.

Had they made everything official the week before when it looked like the Fusion deal with Bischoff was done, Id agree. But since it was literally a few days earlier, there probably wasnt much care beyond letting the Nitro crews do their thing one last time.

I was watching the September 13th, 1998 episode of heat(which includes a Vader vs ken shamrock match) and as I say I noticed the dots missing.
May 10, 20187 yr comment_5848660 Im guessing it takes them more time to put the dots in and they figured it was better the get the most stuff up as quickly as possible then to spend time going through each episode to add those chapters and the associated tags that must go with them. They must assume most people watch full shows now rather than skipping to the matches they want to see.

You could tell Bruce was leaning in and luxuriating in his own BS this week, but based on his facial expressions, I think he was doing it with a wink and a nod. I wonder if it's like that on the audio podcast too but it gets lost in translation because you can't see his face. Lots of interesting stories about the Ted's debut, the production of the vignettes, the creation of the Million Dollar Belt, etc. Conrad's disdain for Brutus "the fucking Barber" Beefcake was very odd. I realize it's "hip" to develop amnesia about just how over Beefcake was, and what a big part of the WWF he was in the '80s, but this felt a tad obnoxious to me. Ditto for Conrad's takedowns of Virgil. Was the guy ever a super-worker? No. But that was a hot storyline, regardless of Conrad's opinion. Awesome story about Vince on a plane as "the true Million Dollar Man."
May 10, 20187 yr comment_5848803 I feel like Beefcake had become what I would call an average worker with bouts of slightly above average in 1989. He really wasn't that bad in the ring. Limited obviously but there are plenty of limited guys out there with far better reputations. Now, post injury he was the absolute shits but that was a pretty brutal injury he suffered. Virgil was okay too. Guy did his job and did it pretty well.

He's not the worst guy on the roster by any means but I don't think I've ever seen a singles match that I would actively call good.

Plus the Barber gimmick is one of those things everyone remembers from that era so that has to count for something. He probably should have retired after the injury, but I'm sure he had major bills to pay (plus being a Friend of Hogan was a pretty sweet gig to have).

Obviously there are plenty of tags with Valentine. His weaknesses are hidden in those matches and he's definitely acceptable.

Looking back, sure Beefcake was mediocre at best in the ring, but like C.S. said, he was really, really fucking over. It's kind of sad that the rest of his career turned him into a joke, because in 89/90 he was probably the third biggest babyface in the United States behind Hogan and The Warrior.
