Now watching the This is Your Life RAW that was uploaded. The promo opening the show took forever. The Rock segment isn't very good. I have rewatched most of these in the last few months (mostly on the network) and I find all of the "classic" "hilarious" Monday Night Raw moments to be actually terrible: the beer truck, the milk truck, DX and the tank, the promo mocking Owen and NOD, etc.

I think it's on the last DVD bio they did for the Rock where Vince himself says he didn't like the "This is Your Life" skit and has no idea why it was so highly rated.

I'll have to go back and watch it but I seem to remember that being part of the discussion, yes.

 

Rock and Foley were quoted saying Vince was losing his mind at how long they were going and the next day they were rubbing it in his face about how high the ratings were. Then they cut to Vince who gripes about not thinking the segment was anything special and not getting why so many people watched it.

 

Vince thinks poop jokes and fucking corpses will draw huge numbers, though.

I don't know of anyone who's held the "toilet humor is the funniest thing EVAR" mindset as long as Vince has. Even the biggest man-children usually move past that point by their 40s at the latest.

They really should go to a more structured schedule. Flipping on a random Raw (in order) in the morning is currently my favorite part of the Network. Could it be so hard to add 5 new episodes a week of ECW, an 80s WWF show, etc.?

Watching it live and as a fairly experienced wrestling fan at the time, I knew there was a payoff coming. Foley would go through all this sillyness, finally the last person would be revealed as someone who would attack the Rock along with Foley. Heel turn, easy feud. You don't run a 25 minute interview segment without a payoff, right? I still think myself and every other wrestling fan sat through that because they thought there was a big angle or swerve coming at the end.

Just happened to jump onto the Network on a lunch break at work to rewatch Bret/Piper, but I ended up watching most of Eddie Guerrero's Wrestlemania Rewind on the live feed, including Guerrero/Angle at WM20 and post-match comments from CM Punk (!), instead.

 

The live feed may seem like a waste, but it ended up hooking me for the better part of an hour when I only intended to go there for a quick 15 minute match.

I would dip in and out of the live feed or have it on in the background a lot more if it didn't skip on me so much

I think you're forgetting the star-making conclusion of Triple H storming out to kick balloons and pout.

I just watched the This Is Your Life episode and HHH is horrendous. His promos were so much worse than they would be just a few months later. Amazing how quickly he grew into being a competent main eventer.

Catching up to the end of Legends House and watching the Game Show episode. Jimmy Hart still using the line about being a good Christian athlete who would never cheat 30+ years later is the best.

I was watching the live feed earlier and there was a Pipers Pit with Sal Bellomo who was on in the stead of JYD.....I had never seen this before and this era WWF is a time I am mostly unfamiliar with. So imagine my surprise when Piper starts hurling all kinds of racial slurs poor old Sal's way. Really took me by surprise....very uncomfortable viewing, especially with the Snuka coconut bit either just before or just after.

 

Wrestling eh?

I'm not the biggest Piper or Piper's Pit fan so I haven't seen all or even most of them but I recall him using fried chicken and watermelon jokes with Tony Atlas (or was it JYD) and saying that Mr. T (or again was it JYD???) was the only man who wears more chains than his ancestors. So, par for the course for that era of rasslin.

Reader beware it is Wrestlezone but Vince seems to be taunting Wrestlers to unionise with this morale booster:

 

WZ has learned WWE talent relations held a meeting with all the wrestlers in the past week or so and instituted a dress code again, which is a sore subject with the talent considering the brutal schedule they've been on. Fines will be levied for any violation of the dress code.

Wrestlers were also told there is a zero tolerance rule in effect for showing up to Raw or Smackdown after the designated call time, which is usually 2pm eastern time for Raw and 2pm local time for Smackdown. Needless to say, with WrestleMania checks and video game payments still not distributed, the talent in WWE is, according to one source, "jittery" to say the least.
