Is it really 20 chapters?

 

That's what was mentioned in one of the previews some time ago.

 

 

Maybe the rest is non-linear stuff about production, individual players behind the scenes, etc, etc?

 

 

That's what I expected once I saw the 20 eps number, and frankly, the only reason I gave this one a chance as otherwise it's a pretty beaten up subject. I'm also hoping for an episode on the cruiserweights but it's more likely that we'll instead get three on Montreal or something.

 

Mike Sempervive has a thread at the Observer site board where he takes talking points and checks up on them with whoever his contacts within WWE are. In response to various queries about the Network he got back the response:

The same source also noted that most of the more interesting stuff on YouTube and the website is done without going through Vince, but he vets all the original content on the Network.

 

Call me crazy, but I doubt it's that hard to find wrestling fans in the frigging video production business unless you're just not trying.

Also, I picked up a Roku streaming stick today, It's like their version of the Chromecast. Fired up the WWE Network app, and despite the interface being (understandably) a bit spartan the actual streaming has been perfect so far. Been the best non-computer version of the Network so far.

 

Tested it by watching Summerslam 1995, and holy shit there's at least 2-3 spots where HBK could have legit broken his leg taking crazy bumps in the ladder match.

By far the best platform I have watched on. It's not flashy looking with the menus, etc., but it's simple, sturdy, and effective.

I've only watched The Network on my laptop and the Roku (and played around a bit on my phone but nothing significant) and I really haven't had much of an issue with the Roku at all. In fact, during PPV's, I feel like I get less dropouts than a lot of other people but I also have a really strong internet connection and that might be a bigger factor.

I have had practically no issues at all with my Roku 3.

 

When I'm streaming the PPVs live, the image quality takes a noticeable dip...but if you just start the show, say, 10 minutes late, it helps a good bit.

 

I've told anyone interested that if you don't already have a device/game system/Apple TV, the Roku 3 is really good. Very easy to use and set-up (I think I set mine up and was on the Network within 20 minutes of purchasing it from Radio Shack) and you also get access to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and tons of other apps.

Roku 3 is what I use, and it's great.

 

Anyone else thinking of not renewing the Network (Night of Champions sounds terrible to me), and waiting for an inevitable deal?

I see no reason to not renew, it's still a tremendous service that offers more content than I'll ever be able to partake in and is still adding content.

I noticed that all the fancy stuff they add to the menus (especially on the Xbox 360) tends to bog things down a lot, probably the main reason the Roku is so much smoother. You'd think WWE would notice that too, but then again it would go against the last 30+ years of evidence to think they would ever choose the less gaudy option for anything.

The Roku streaming stick is my device of choice, and it really does work great. Also easy to add other apps.

I wonder if the WWE can make some sort of deal where they'd offer streaming sticks for new signups, since it's pretty much the most idiot proof way of watching via TV. It might piss off the manufacturers of the other devices, but if WWE isn't going to make any attempt to educate their less technical viewers how to stream via console/Apple TV/etc you might as well try to provide them the easiest solution.

IMO, Chromecast is a horrible, clunky, overrated piece of shit. The lack of a remote kills it dead (don't care that there's an app). With the Chromecast, it's so ridiculous because not only do I have to stick it into my TV's USB, I also have to plug it into my wall. Looks like absolute dogshit. (I realize this is partly because of my TV and not everyone will have to do that, but still.)

My complaint with the remote is I'll find myself bumping a button and it takes me forever to get back where I was. But otherwise it works well. There's a remote app that I do appreciate, and I find my linking my smartphone ideal for searching Youtube videos. It is also the fastest app I have streaming Youtube, if you consume wrestling that way.

I hate the USB and plug setup, but that's a small price to pay for a cheaper product that works well. The Chromecast is a bust IMO because there's no remote at all (and a crappy phone app is NOT an adequate replacement in my book). The Roku stick at least seems to have a remote, which makes all the difference in the world.

Addition to the list of little things they don't get right/don't care about/aren't consistent with: some matches in the video vault include entrances, some don't. No rhyme or reason.
