Sabertooth, Mr. Sinister, Magneto, Apocolypse, Omega Red, Juggernaut etc. Some great characters. Especially on the X-Men side of things. I'm trying to get into Sandman & Hellblazer. Anyone know a good place to start?

Anyone know a good place to start? Not to be a dick, but start from the beginning. The first story arc of Sandman is actually quite a bit different in sections than the series became, but it's a good read, and with such a cohesive storyline throughout the 75 issues, you need to read them all to really appreciate it. There are arcs that are a little blah, naturally, but even those were better than almost any other book at the time (or now, I imagine). I do, of course, have to recommend Cerebus, another book that MUST be read from the beginning. It's possibly the most remarkable thing I have ever read in my life, but be warned: it's a pretty large undertaking. That is all.
March 18, 200520 yr comment_1279824 I dug Preacher from beginning to end. I enjoyed Astro City's initial run before it became bogged down by a shitty iregular schedule. Quantum and Woody was pretty enjoyable in it's short run. Major Bummer was a short lived but interesting take on what might happen if a regular guy got superpowers. One of my personal favourite comics was Sabretooth Unleashed, which followed up Uncanny X-Men 324 I believe, where Creed gutted Psylocke. I was a mark for Sabretooth in my early teens.
March 22, 200520 yr comment_1340791 Favorite Character: This one's really hard for me, as most of my favorite comics are either ensemble pieces where everybody has an equal role (The Maxx) or team-based superhero fare where there's no real standout character (early Claremont-era Uncanny X-Men). I guess, when it comes to solo characters, you have to come back to Batman, a character who's heroic, tragic, vengeful, and intelligent all at the same time. A couple of years ago, I would have said Gambit without hesitation, but he's become so damaged by lazy writers with uneven or nonsensical plotlines. Let's dump Gambit in Antarctica! Let's make Gambit blind! Just insanity. Favorite Publication: If I had to choose one, I guess I'd choose Marvel, though I seem to like a fair percentage of Image, DC and Marvel equally.
March 22, 200520 yr comment_1341708 They made Gambit blind? How did he throw his playing cards at people if he couldn't see them? When I collected comics in 93-94 Gambit was pretty much the only Marvel character I liked. I was a big DC mark for Batman, Superman, and Guy Gardner.

They had flamboyant artist and excellent writing. Sam Keith is still my favorite artist/writer and he is still doing work to this day. Image just had a fabulous stable of artist; Jim Lee, Jae Lee, Rob Liefeld, Sam Kieth, Dale Keown etc.. And who can forget that Todd McFarlane, Spawn, made image and put them on the map. And the Maxx has recieved criticism over the years for its bouncing story and mesh of characters but it stood the test of time and had the second longest run, falling short of the Spawn run.
April 27, 200520 yr Author comment_1885003 I got seventy-five e-comics of Sandman. Is that all of them? I've read the first thirty-two so far, and it's badass. It may have surpassed Hellboy. I certainly like the premise better. I think I still like Hellboy better as far as art is concerned though.
April 29, 200520 yr comment_1909540 I really like "Strangers in Paradise", "Preacher" and a bunch of little indie things - "The Magic Whistle" is one of the funniest things I've ever read.
