March 30, 201510 yr comment_5662289 Am I just old or are those not really celebrities? I saw Chris Hero in there. Can't really say, but it is way easier to be a celebrity now and have most people not know who you are than ever before.
March 31, 201510 yr comment_5662427 Am I just old or are those not really celebrities? I saw Chris Hero in there. There's Macaulay Culkin, Seth Green, Haley Joel Osment (The I see Dead People kid) and Arquette that would count as actual celebrities and not just vaguely famous. Unless you're referring to the people playing the roles of various wrestlers, where you'd have a point. They're more internet famous I guess, in the nerd fandom.
March 31, 201510 yr comment_5662538 Mountain Goats' Beat the Champ drops April 7th and is pretty incredible. I'd be hard pressed to name cooler art that anyone's made "about" wrestling. Even just musically speaking, this is the best Darnielle guitar of his career, and Jon Wurster's never sounded better on drums. Kind of an amazing achievement if you're a fan of both wrestling and good music. http://www.npr.org/2015/03/29/395108044/first-listen-the-mountain-goats-beat-the-champ "The Ballad of Chavo Guerrero" and "Heel Turn" are now both on Spotify.
March 31, 201510 yr comment_5662571 I interviewed him a few weeks ago, and it was a bit amusing since he briefly mentioned the Apartment Wrestling ads in old pro wrestling magazines. So hoping he writes something about that subject in the future. Loved the album, initially overlooked "Unmasked" but came to really love that track. So good. Also "The Ballad of Bull Ramos" is a sweet little tribute.
April 7, 201510 yr comment_5663826 I was listening to a tour audio https://soundcloud.com/robert-risperdal-wright/easter-mountain-goats-concert And he plays the Hard Times promo as his walkout music. Seeing him in DC Wednesday, over the moon excited

April 9, 201510 yr comment_5664322 Conversation I had with John Darnielle: http://pharrfromheaven.blogspot.com/2015/04/conversation-with-john-darnielle-of.html
April 11, 201510 yr comment_5664562 I really wanted to like the album but found the music mostly dull and Darnielle's voice grating. The Goats just don't hit my musical sweet spot, though I've always dug his sensibility. Maybe I'll try his novel.
April 11, 201510 yr comment_5664577 It's the first album in a long time I have liked from him. My favorites will always be the old Darnielle and boombox albums.
April 17, 201510 yr comment_5665087 Judging by some of his artwork and insults, it seems Raymond Pettibon is a fan. Wonder if Nick Mundy was ever a member of DVDR.
April 17, 201510 yr comment_5665089 I bought Beat The Champ the other night and it's fucking tremendous.

He must've felt pretty awesome hearing some of his work used in WWE, specifically his Johnny Cash credits.

April 23, 201510 yr comment_5665749 Got to see the Mountain Goats live Tuesday night. My wife was dying when she heard the Dusty Rhodes "Hard Times" promo before they came out. I was super excited to get to meet Darnielle after the show. He signed my copy of The Sunset Tree and I got to tell him how cool it is that Al Madril has been name-checked in a song in 2015. I had on a Macho Man t-shirt and he told me he loved it. Great show with a nice selection of stuff off the new album and many old faves.

June 28, 201510 yr comment_5681786 Joe Manganiello (of Magic Mike and True Blood fame) pulled the ultimate 'bring the gf to a random wrestling event' by bringing Sofia Veraga to last night's PWG show. ]
February 27, 20169 yr Author comment_5729673 Tom Petty said something kind of profound in Rosanna Arquette's documentary about the music business, about rock and roll being like pro wrestling, that it's fake and the fans know it but don't care anyway. It's made me wonder all this time whether or not he was a fan himself growing up in Florida.

March 22, 20169 yr comment_5734734 I've heard Adam Sandler is a fan, which could explain the reference to Chief Jay Strongbow in Big Daddy.
March 23, 20169 yr comment_5734932 British singer/songwriter Sam Duckworth, formerly known as Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, is a big wrestling fan. I know he did a couple of Spin Cycle's for TNA on their UK tours, and the video for "The Real McCoy" (a song about Kid McCoy) featured Austin Aries and Alex Shelley wrestling in black-and-white. I once DJed a show he was headlining in London, and knowing the above, played Mark Henry's ring music as he came onstage, which he enjoyed.

Bret Hart wrote in his book about meeting Dylan at a jazz festival in New Orleans (introduced to them by mutual friend and probably a famous fan himself Aaron Neville).
April 23, 20169 yr comment_5747617 Fez from the Ron and Fez show is a huge fan. His on air name is Fez Marie Whatley which he admits he based on Pistol Pez Whatley. He also would talk numerous times on air about Florida wrestling in the 70a.
June 9, 20187 yr Author comment_5852602 Kevin Smith had Mick Foley on one of his podcasts and at one point talked about going to Garden shows in the early 80's, and TP'ing Sgt. Slaughter's house leaving trash on Sgt. Slaughter's front lawn, spelled out "Gomer".

Fez would do Flair promos all the time. Ron was/is a big fan of carny stuff. They also did the whole East Side Dave “Midnight Rider” saga that was probably my favorite thing ever. The “ECW Zombie” was a big fan of the show, as well. I miss Ron & Fez.
