I do. Though the Great One will likely always be considered to be one of the greatest players of all time, I really think Messier was a better ambassador for the game. He was a natural born leader who could do just about anything you asked of him, including knocking somebody the fuck out. I think it's pretty telling that Gretsky never won a Stanley Cup without Messier, but Messier went on to be the first player ever to be the captain on two different franchise's Stanley Cup winning teams. Even as somebody who couldn't stand the New York Rangers at the time, his performance in Game 6 of the 1994 was just an amazing feat.

Here's to the Moose, one of the best to ever take the ice.

I don't consider him one of the greatests. Just a really good player who played so long that he ends up with numbers that put him up there.

...yes, I'm also jaded with him, as an Edmontonian.

Mark Messier was in my opinion a great player, though he was often over shadowed by other players in the league such as Wayne and Mario. I loved his agressive style and he was one of the few players who on their own could make me pay to see a game.

Ron Francis also just retired. He's another personal favorite of mine, as I was a big Penguins fan when I was younger.

You know, I'm stunned with all the old guys leaving after the lockout. It was as if they suddenly went "for the good of hockey, we'll stop playing and let the younger kids make names for themselves."

Cause the rate at which they are retiring I've never seen before, honestly.
