I would be really interested to hear the thoughts of several PWOers on this episode. Likes of talk on what really "killed" Vader's aura in the U.S. market

Haven't listened to the show yet, but I think the killing of Vader's aura starts with Vader losing the cage match to Flair at Superbrawl. He should have regained the title there.

I offered up my thoughts on Twitter to you and Jason before you recorded. Once I listen and the conversation gets rolling here I'd gladly join in again.

I'm halfway through and it's a great show so far. I just wanted to add a few things:

 

(1) Vader didn't win with the splash in WCW. It was a highspot he used mid-match, but he didn't beat anyone with it.

 

(2) They were pushing on TV that Flair and Vader were still enemies based on the 1993 feud. However, the day before the show, Flair did say that as the only guy in WCW that had faced both of them, Vader was going to destroy Hogan. Flair wasn't being pushed as a total OTT heel in retirement until he interfered at the finish.

 

(3) Fans at the time were thrilled to see Flair back and involved in something since WCW was so dismal without him. I'm curious why you are guys are down on his presence. If this is talked about more in the second half of the show, feel free to just say "Listen to the second half of the show."

I love Flair, but at the time the focus should have been on Vader v. Hogan, not Vader as a stop gap to another Hogan v. Flair feud.

I think we did get into it more, but I'd have more excited to see Flair here if he hadn't been used in such an embarrassing fashion in the next few months.

When does the awesomeness with Savage start to happen? I still think late 95 to pre-NWO 96 is Flair's last great run. It's been a while, but my memory of THAT Flair coming into being is from around this time.

It gets a bit better for Flair with the first Savage feud in June and July and then much better with the Arn feud, Horsemen reunion and second Savage feud by early 1996.

What a coincidence. I just saw this match for the first time last week, and the episode with Loss talking about Wrestlewar '90 came out just as I was getting to that match while going through 1990. I look forward to checking this out tomorrow.

Jason - Any idea why the old episodes aren't all in the feed? Been switching over to using my phone as my primary listening device, and the only eps available (on Downcast, anyhow) are the last half dozen, or so.
