JJ announces that Macho Man is the winner of the first match tonight vs. Chris Adams due to outside interference from Lex Luger. Luger comes out hot and gives one of his better promos of all time. He says that he is sick and tired of the NWO coming out and interfering at will and him, DDP, Sting, and The Giant are not going to stand for it any longer. FInally, someone within WCW seems to be giving the NWO a taste of their own medicine. JJ looks a little foolish here but I can understand his position in the sense that his hands are tied and he can only discipline the individuals he has jurisdiction over. Luger got over with this kind of dull Daytona crowd more than anyone else on the show minus maybe Bret and Flair.

Luger is right to be pissed off. The NWO should not be treated fairly, and it makes WCW look awful that they are. I don't like how entrenched the NWO was at this point. They went from being renegade outsiders out to take over the company to just the top heel faction, so what made it unique is gone. Interesting how all of these problems started creeping up pretty much immediately in 1998.

  • GSR changed the title to [1998-01-08-WCW-Thunder] J.J. Dillon and Lex Luger
