Conspiracy theorists will say this match was set up to kill Bart Gunn's momentum since Ross was upset with him for knocking out Dr. Death. Gorilla Monsoon is at ringside and isn't looking well. I think this is his last public appearance. He gets a huge ovation from the Mania crowd.

Surely there must be ulterior motives here, no way anyone could believe Bart had the slightest chance here?

Steve Austin picked Bart to win. Sigh.

 

Even after Bart KO'd JR's hand-picked winner, the company again asked him to take a dive for Bradshaw in the finals. Knowing now that Bradshaw can be KO'd by Joey Styles, maybe Bart vs Butterbean isn't so bad after all.

Everytime I watch a Bart Gunn match, I think of my uncle who looks like his doppelganger. Wasn't Gorilla still doing announcing during this time on International Superstars?

That was such an amazing KO punch. Picture perfect. It's not just New Japan who buried their wrestlers by throwing them into MMA.

Bart's reaction to the very first punch of the match indicates just how much he's in over his head. According to Dave Meltzer, both in the WONs of the time and his appearance on the Lapsed Fan, the WWF really did think Gunn could win this.

Poor Bart Gunn. Now I'm not saying that he could of been a top star, but he's a good-looking guy with plenty of experience and they could of done at something with his Brawl For All win instead of having his career killed by being fed to Butterbean. What makes this even more baffling is that the Brawl For All wrapped up over six months ago. At least this was quick and the kill shot was truly devastating. Seeing a frail Gorilla Monsoon getting a huge ovation when he's introduced as a guest judge was a very touching moment.
