Posted October 10, 200520 yr comment_3635290 Chad Johnson has offically became the most punchable WR in football. After the pre-game segment on him before tonight's game made me want to break something. At least TO has been to a Super Bowl, Johnson plays for the worst team of the last 10 years in an ugly ass uniform. What the fuck does he have to boast about?
October 10, 200520 yr Author comment_3638728 He plays for the fucking Bengals. You don't have the right to talk shit when the most famous moment involving your team is Tim Krumrie breaking his ankle in the Super Bowl.
October 10, 200520 yr comment_3639608 Why does the Bengals history matter? The Eagles' history wasn't hot shit before last year's super bowl either. Chad is at least a top 5 WR in the league now, so if he wants to boast, he has a reason too. It's better than Eric Moulds yapping his gums every week, when he was never that good, plus he's a convict piece of garbage.
October 10, 200520 yr comment_3639794 Yeah, I don't have a problem at all with CJ's antics either... he does it all in good nature and you know that the guy truly loves the game. Sleeping at the stadium, him and Palmer going to see Manning & Harrison play -- the guy wants to be one of the best and he easily is a top 5 WR in the league (Harrison, TO, Holt, Moss, Ward/Johnson) which allows T.J., Washington, and Henry to get one-on-one coverage nearly all game. Did you see some of the shots he took last night? What about the one where he was laid out in the air trying to catch the ball and got BLASTED? He got right back up and continued to bring it... he's actually one of my favorite players in the league. He plays for the fucking Bengals. You don't have the right to talk shit when the most famous moment involving your team is Tim Krumrie breaking his ankle in the Super Bowl. And? He talked even when the Bengals sucked ass and he began to breakout. I really don't see your point at all.

He may not be Top 5 but he's certainly an upper-tier one.
October 10, 200520 yr comment_3641282 You can't rip on a guy that dines at McDonalds for breakfast every morning. They followed him around for the Bengals training camp on NFL Network. He was joking around saying he has a life after football and it's behind the counter at McDonald's. Really though, who cares if he talks trash as long as he's a team player. Johnson's a team player unlike Moss or TO.
October 11, 200520 yr Author comment_3642193 To me, boasting seems a bit uncalled for when an 8-8 record is cause for celebration on your team. How much of a team player can CJ be when he got into it with Carson on the sidelines because he thought he wasn't getting thrown to enough? Maybe its because I'm a Steelers fan where it's always been team over individual, but I just don't like the whole "look at me be wacky and outspoken" crap among WRs now. The Steelers won four bowls and the only reason anyone outside of Pittsburgh remembers any of their WRs is because Lynn Swann went into broadcasting. I guess I'm old school, I just liked the days when a guy could go out and do his damn job without having to boast and trash talk. It comes off as disrespectful and usually ends up pissing people off on your team when you consider guys like TO and Randy Moss pioneered the age of the boasting WR and both of those guys ended up leaving teams because they pretty much pissed everyone off. Not only that, but TO ended up starting shit on his new team and the only reason Moss hasn't made waves is because he's on the only team in the NFL where someone like him could be considered understated.
October 11, 200520 yr comment_3643130 Where would you consider Joe Horn when it comes to NFL wideouts? He may not be Top 5 but he's certainly an upper-tier one. Hmm.. without thinking about all the teams off the top of my head, Horn easily makes it as #6 for me. With Jimmy Smith right behind him.
October 11, 200520 yr comment_3644500 I guess I'm old school, I just liked the days when a guy could go out and do his damn job without having to boast and trash talk. Trash talking isn't anything new. It turned a painfully average QB in Joe Namath into a Hall of Famer. Deion Sanders had been doing it since his first day in the league. If you went back guys have probably been doing it since the league started. And what's with bashing the Bengals history. 2 Super Bowl appearances is more than a lot of teams can claim.
October 11, 200520 yr comment_3644531 Namath was the first QB to throw for 4000 yards in a single season...with less games than today's schedule. Injuries is what ruined Namath's career, not lousy skills. Namath had the skills to back up whatever trash he felt like talking. The Jets could have probably won another SB after their '69 win had Namath's knees not been decimated. Chad Johnson, this season, can talk all the trash he wants as long as he keeps putting up strong numbers. When he says "I'm the best ever" is when the line should be drawn. The '88 Bengals *should* have won that year's SB. They were one of the best teams to never win the SB. That team was #1 in nearly every category. Sam Wyche, for several season, was one of the best coaches in the league. Like the great Dan Corryell though, Wyche never won it all and that'll always haunt his legacy.
October 11, 200520 yr comment_3644539 Joe Horn's so wasted in New Orleans. He's going to retire without a Superbowl ring.

October 11, 200520 yr Author comment_3649412 I just enjoyed watching Mr. "No One Can Cover Me" Johnson get shut down by what I would consider a decent but unremarkable defensive back corps. I guess I'm just too old school for these whippersnappers and their boasting. I'd rather watch Hines Ward go out and be one of the best WRs in football without boasting about it.

Honestly, I see more of an upside for an SB run with Moss/Oaktown than I do with Horn/Orleans. Horn's going to retire before the Saints are able to contend and make an SB run. Remember, the Raiders are just 3 season removed from playing in the SB unlike the Saints who haven't even sniffed a conference championship game since their start-up. Horn and Smith are going to retire without rings. Randy's young(er) so he's got a better chance at finally winning it all. I like Horn too but he's a franchice player for a crummy team...like Aeneas Williams was for all those years he played with the Cardinals.

In 1967, when Namath threw for 4,007 yards, he threw 26 TD's but 28 INT's with a 52.5 passer rating. He only threw more TD's than INT's in two of his 13 seasons. Ugly stuff. He played his final season with the Los Angeles Rams but only played in 4 games. My dad was at Joe's final game and he said it was heart breaking to watch Broadway Joe eat shit on his final play of the game. I saw clips of the game and that was an ugly final game for anyone. I hope Bret Favre has a better final game than that.

I like Horn too but he's a franchice player for a crummy team...like Aeneas Williams was for all those years he played with the Cardinals. And, that's based on what? True, the Raiders are three years removed from a Super Bowl appearance, but if you're simply using that to backup your reasoning that really does not help your case at all. Not to mention that that specific Raider team was a product of Jon Gruden and Callahan basically just took the ship and ran with it. The Raiders have way too many holes on their defense to even think about a playoff appearance in the AFC West. With the Chargers, Chiefs, and Broncos? Pfft.. the Raiders are going to have a tough time just getting a WILDCARD spot in the next few years. I know the Saints are inconsistent as hell, but they still have the opportunity to at least make the playoffs in the next few years. Remember, the Raiders are just 3 season removed from playing in the SB unlike the Saints who haven't even sniffed a conference championship game since their start-up. Because the Saints are playing in a soft division and all.. y'know, the Panthers just being in the Super Bowl two years ago, the Falcons being in the NFC Championship Game last year, and the Bucs WINNING the Super Bowl three years ago -- yep, no competition at all.

I didn't like when ESPN included him in their overrated athlete list. Namath never comes up in "Best Ever QB" discussions, and most realize he was a marginal player. He's a good-looking QB who happened to be on a Super Bowl team and made celebrity out of it. There's nothing wrong with that.
October 13, 200520 yr comment_3666629 Oh, that CJ! Pacman can earn his NFL stripes Bengals Chad Johnson has sights set on Titans rookie By JIM WYATT Staff Writer Published: Thursday, 10/13/05 Chad Johnson doesn't believe in performing the same celebration routine twice. "Repeats aren't good,'' the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver said. "This is entertainment. Therefore, you can't see the rerun. It's like watching a soap opera. There's never a rerun in a soap opera.'' He also doesn't believe anyone in the NFL can cover him. "Have you watched me play before?'' he asked. "There is no such thing. It's like saying you can get away without paying taxes.'' What Johnson does believe in is himself, which is why he's guaranteed victories, nicknamed himself 7-11 ("Because I'm always open") and sent Pepto-Bismol to defensive players, predicting they'd get sick of covering him. Now Johnson has a hit list of sorts and Titans cornerback Pacman Jones is on it. By this time next week, Johnson hopes to have an X in the "No" box next to the rookie's name. "Rookie or not, he's a good player,'' Johnson said of Jones. "First round pick, sixth player taken overall ? there was a reason he was taken that high and it's because he's a ball player. There's no licking any chops. I have to go out there and play him like I would a 10-year veteran.'' Johnson's play and mouth have made him one of the best and best-known wide receivers in the NFL. The fifth-year pro has elevated himself into the elite receiver class along with Terrell Owens, Randy Moss and Marvin Harrison. Johnson, who has been selected to the last two Pro Bowls, leads the AFC in receptions (31) and ranks second in receiving yards (426) this season. "He has size, he catches the ball very well, and he can run really fast," Titans General Manager Floyd Reese said. "He has all those things, but in addition to that he is lighting-quick and can separate in a second. He's scary.'' He also has charisma and creativity that would make a public relations firm proud. Johnson's touchdown celebrations have ranged from performing CPR on a football, to doing pushups and a biceps flex, to dancing a jig he called the River Dance. He's already warming up for his trip to Nashville, where the Titans (2-3) play host to the Bengals (4-1) on Sunday. "Tennessee is a very country-type state, right?'' said the Miami native. "Maybe I can practice on some type of country-western dance so they'll know what I'm doing. ? If I do score, you guys are going to love this one.'' But the list that hangs in his locker is what has generated the most talk lately. During the offseason Johnson came up with the idea of a chart to document how opposing cornerbacks covered him. Titled "Who covered 85 in '05," the laminated sheet of paper has a cornerback from each team on Cincinnati's schedule. Next to the cornerback there's a Yes/No box, and after each game Johnson decides if the player did enough to earn a "Yes." According to Johnson, that means the cornerback has to make a play in a one-on-one situation to keep him from a catch. Bad passes and drops don't count. Johnson has yet to check a "Yes" box. Jones is on the list this week, though Titans cornerback Andre Woolfolk is expected to line up across from Johnson at times on Sunday as well. Said Jones: "Nobody's got a 'Yes' on there, but they (the Bengals) lost the last game didn't they? As long as we get a win, that will be a yes on my list. But I'm not really getting caught up in the list. For the most part I am just going to play football. Can I make a play? Hell yes. C'mon man." Johnson said the list is about personal incentive, not disrespect to his opponents. Yesterday he went out of his way to compliment Jones and Woolfolk, saying the latter was as good as former Titan Samari Rolle, who covered him last year. "It keeps me motivated and keeps me playing at a high level," Johnson said. "I just want my opponent for that week to be at his highest level of play, therefore I know I am getting his best and he is getting my best and may the best man win. That's all it is. "I am not perfect. Am I going to win continuously all 17 weeks? Of course not. I am human. But the point of posing that challenge, it gets me going.'' While Owens and Moss have rubbed fans and even teammates the wrong way, Johnson's teammates, coaches and opponents don't seem to mind his shenanigans. "The thing I'll say about Chad is he probably works as hard as anybody I've ever played with in seven years,'' said Bengals defensive tackle John Thornton, a former Titan. "And he is the same way in practice. If you don't throw him the ball in practice he is mad coming back to the huddle. He always feels like he is open. "He likes to have fun, but he works hard every day. Even in walkthroughs everybody is out there in tennis shoes and he is out there in cleats because he wants to run his routes right and he wants to make his catches then. Players don't mind playing with players like that. We don't think anything that he does is disrespectful.'' Now the Titans must find a way to slow him down. Johnson is averaging 85.2 yards per game and is on track for a team-record season of 1,363 yards. Last Sunday in Jacksonville the Jaguars double-teamed Johnson, limiting him to five catches for 52 yards and a touchdown. The Bengals lost 23-20. Johnson made some plays against the Titans last season (six catches for 67 yards) but the Bengals lost 27-20. He's yet to score in three career games against Tennessee. "You don't shut down a guy like Chad. He is too good of a player and that is just the reality," Titans Coach Jeff Fisher said. "What you have to try and do is not give up the great big plays ? "I understand Pac is on his list. But we are not just going to commit Pac to Chad. We are going to line up and play their offense and not be consumed or distracted by just one player." ? Linky
October 13, 200520 yr Author comment_3666678 I can't wait till they play the Steelers and Troy P lights him up like a Christmas Tree. I will give him one thing, he's made Bengals games interesting again. So I guess this means he doesn't think the Jags secondary contained him last week....I wonder what the qualifications are.
October 13, 200520 yr comment_3666715 So I guess this means he doesn't think the Jags secondary contained him last week....I wonder what the qualifications are. Well, he did have a great ass catch for a TD against them... but the rule is if the opposing CB covering him is able to break up one pass during the game then they covered him. Maybe him scoring a TD on Mathis made up for that.. who knows about Chad? It's all in good fun. I can't wait till they play the Steelers and Troy P lights him up like a Christmas Tree. You better hope Troy is covering him because he'd probably eat up most of the Steelers' corners. If the matchup is anything like Troy-Gates, count me in.
October 13, 200520 yr comment_3666768 If it wasn't for double teaming and the touchdown, he probably would've checkmarked a "Yes". If I'm him and I'm getting double-teamed that'd be an automatic DQ to the single CB that's supposed to cover him, cause he shouldn't need help ya know? But then again, a TD would be an automatic DQ as well since I scored on them.

The Steelers had him on lock for the whole game when it counted, I'm sure CJ will claim a victory because he caught a 40-something yard bomb at the end of the game when it was just junk yards. He still finished with only 97 yards even with that late pass added in.
