"This is probably the best defensive back that does not get the credit he should...I'll make sure he gets it this week." Johnson said. "There are two things for Al this week. The bad news is he has to cover me. The good news is he can save 10% by switching his insurance to Geico."

How could you not like CJ is beyond me.

If you're a hardcore football fan that lives and dies by seeing big hits, tough defense, and power running, then it's pretty easy to discard CJ as a mouthy wideout who needs to have his head knocked off.

Not a knock, but a fairly accurate assessment of Steeler fandom, in my opinion. Pittsburgh's a working class town and they like teams that just grit their teeth and push forward.

It's not just Pittsburgh either, more of an old school attitude. And Chad Johnson, with his end zone melodramatics, is way down on the other end of the spectrum.

More CJ goodness (c'mon, the guy is entertaining as HELL):

Dungy coached the AFC?s Pro Bowl team after the 2003 season, when the NFL was still stewing over Janet Jackson?s infamous halftime show at the Super Bowl. Justin Timberlake yanked off part of her top at the end of the show, embarrassing league officials.

Johnson devised a touchdown celebration for his first Pro Bowl appearance that was a takeoff on the halftime controversy, but Dungy got him to change his mind.

?I cut a hole in my jersey and stitched it back together,? Johnson said Wednesday. ?When I scored, I was going to pull it open. He talked me out of that one. He was right. I didn?t want to tease the league like that.?

Link me, please!

Troy Polamalu and Antonio Gates had an EXCELLENT matchup when the Steelers took on the Chargers... hard-hitting, rough... but a lot of respect. It was just beyond awesome to watch.

Chad Johnson said he's going to have the best TD celebration ever this Sunday. Can't wait to see it.

What's the problem with TD dances? Chad Johnson is a funny guy; telling him that he's wrong in having fun is stupid.

Because TD dances are ridiculous and egocentric, not to mention it's a show of poor sportsmanship to rub it in your opponent's face.

I mean, if Barry Bonds broke into the electric slide every time he hit a home run, he'd get a fastball across his oversized melon on his next AB.

If you score the winning TD, yeah there's gonna be some emotion, but not every TD requires 5 minutes of interpretive dance.

Act like you've been there before.

comment_3953612

An electric slide would be hilarious; and he does sort of do that slow walk to first base thing.

I don't see the problem, as long as it's creative, and funny. Chad Johnson's TD celebrations are both of those.

Well I guess as long as a total lack of sportsmanship is funny, it's OK.

Personally, I wish the refs would flag anything that's pre-planned and/or choreographed with a 15 yard penalty. I know by rule they're supposed to, after the famed Redskins dances that looked like a Broadway musical in shoulder pads, but it doesn't seem to happen much anymore.

comment_3955956

How is it a lack of sportsmanship? The endzone dance has nothing to do with the other team. Does Chad Johnson tape a picture of the CB he just scored on, on the football and start kicking it around? No. Sorry if it offends you grandma, but damn.

comment_3957189

I think pre-planned endzone celebrations are stupid because if you are scoring a TD it's an "in the moment" event. The fact that these guys have pre-planned end zone dances takes away from that. I'd rather see a guy genuinely celebrating after scoring a TD, then doing some retarded choreographed shit. However, I do enjoy when someone on the opposing team scores and mocks the guy who did the dance originally.

Like I said before, it's just an old school mentality. I kind of feel that way too - not necessarily that an endzone celebration disgraces the other team, but that it overshadows the rest of the work that other teammates did in making the score happen; other lineman who sprung a good block, other receivers who demanded extra attention, the quarterback who made the perfect throw. Bill Simmons probably wrote the best column he's ever had about endzone celebrations and how they fit into the evolution of the wide receiver; if you didn't read it at the time, try and see if you can Google it up.

Which is why its stupid that the NFL banned team celebrations. Team celebrations would own.
