November 20, 200520 yr comment_3969439 I can be rightly accused of many things, but being jealous of TD dances is not one of them. Part of the reason I'm a fan of the Steelers is they don't put up with that kind of nonsense. The only time you see Hines Ward doing a TD dance is when he's mocking someone who was talking shit. It's not as if Hines Ward has many opportunities anyway. 6 whole tds on the year...woo.
December 1, 200520 yr Author comment_4044807 Receiver Chad Johnson and the Bengals are looking to have some fun Sunday at Heinz Field at the Steelers' expense Thursday, December 01, 2005 By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Sunday is such a big game for Cincinnati that even the Bengals are trotting out the Terrible Towel. They're not waving it, as thousands of Steelers fans do at every game. They're wearing it. Yesterday, Bengals receiver Chad Johnson donned a Terrible Towel as a bib when he ate lunch. "I've always had a Terrible Towel," Johnson said over the telephone yesterday. "I've always been a fan of the Steelers." Johnson yanked an old Terrible Towel out of his locker after the Bengals defeated the Ravens Sunday in Cincinnati. "That's part of next week's celebration," he said then. Johnson, the AFC's leading receiver with 66 receptions for 1,085 yards, has become famous for his unique end zone celebrations. After he scored against the Ravens, he pulled out the end zone pylon, lined up the football, putted it and then pumped his fist like Tiger Woods sinking a birdie. He was vague about what he might do in Heinz Field if he scores but hinted it might involve the Terrible Towel -- "That would be a nice celebration, wouldn't it?" -- or something related to the city itself. "I can't clue you in but you will enjoy it," Johnson promised. "Let me see, Pittsburgh is the Steel City, right? OK, I got something good. I got something very good. You are going to like it, though." Told it would take some guts for an opposing player to whip out a Terrible Towel in Heinz Field, Johnson replied, "Hey, it takes a lot of [guts] for Hines to do my river dance here, so what's the difference?" Hines Ward mimicked Johnson's dance after catching a touchdown pass in Cincinnati in the Steelers' 27-13 victory Oct. 23. Johnson was held out of the end zone that day by cornerback Ike Taylor. Each opposing receiver has seven touchdown receptions this season. "I love Hines," Johnson said. "It's all in good-natured fun when you know the person is doing it in good nature." The Steelers have had plenty of fun with the lowly Bengals through the years. Bill Cowher's teams have beaten them more than any other opponent, own a 20-7 record against the Bengals since 1992 and have won six of the past seven and nine of the past 11. But this time the Bengals come to Heinz Field as the AFC North Division leaders at 8-3. The Steelers are 7-4 and would fall two games back in the standings with four to play if Cincinnati wins. This is the biggest game in the past 15 years for the Bengals, more important than their first meeting when Cincinnati held a 11/2 -game lead in the division. The Bengals can take a large stride toward the playoffs for the first time since 1990 with a victory. It also would ensure their first winning record since then. "It is big because of the time of the year and what we have to accomplish as a team," Johnson said. "Everything about this time of year is big and very important. It's that much more important than the first time around." Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis barred some out-of-town news media from interviewing his players in the week before the previous game against the Steelers. He has no such ban this week. "I told everybody to relax," Lewis said yesterday. "I think it is an important game, but I don't think it is do or die. There is a lot of football to be played. But obviously Pittsburgh is in our division and it's an important game and one that both teams want to win very badly." It's hard to tell Cincinnati fans to relax, though, after having little to celebrate the past 15 years. The last time the Bengals were in the playoffs, they were rocking to another player's dance, the Ickey Shuffle. Chuck Noll coached the Steelers, and they have been to eight postseasons and five AFC championship games since the Bengals last made the playoffs and lost to the Los Angeles Raiders in Bo Jackson's last game on Jan. 13, 1991. Five coaches later, the Bengals appear to be headed back to the postseason if they can win Sunday. "Later in the year," Lewis finally admitted, "the bigger the game it is, and obviously it is a big game now." The Bengals have not beaten a team with a winning record when they played them, although the Bears (8-3) and Vikings (6-5) have turned things around since losing early-season games to Cincinnati. Sunday, then, is a chance for the Bengals to not only stake their claim to the division title but also prove they can beat a good team. "This is our opportunity to show that we are serious about what we're doing," Johnson said. As serious as a man can be wearing a Terrible Towel for a bib. First off, CJ whipping out a Terrible Towel in Heinz Field isn't the smartest idea he's come up with. Secondly, how is this shit not taunting? This isn't "LOOK AT TEH FUNNEH WR~!", it's deliberately mocking an opponent. Is that no longer a penalty?
December 1, 200520 yr comment_4046043 Um...Hines Ward is always mocking celebrations, I don't see the problem with this. In fact, it's great. The players and the fans should have a close relationship. I don't know about you, but it's more fun when the players notice what the fans are doing and play into that. I'm sure the fans will be amused.
December 1, 200520 yr comment_4046169 Some people take this sport too serious. It's just guys having fun while playing a game. It's not like the other team is going to run off crying about hurt feelings.
December 1, 200520 yr comment_4046264 Yeah, personally I'm sick of hearing all the whining about something that's completely harmless.

I'm sure the fans will be amused. Yeah, cause Hines Ward mocks someone after every touchdown, and always tells the media he's gonna unveil his new dance.....except of course he doesn't. Hines has done mock dances exactly 3 times, once against TO, once against Ray Lewis, and just recently against CJ. It's getting a little tiresome having people trying to compare guys like CJ to guys like Ward in some attempt to make me appear to be some homer who ignores things his team does. If you really think they're the same type of player, there's nothing else I can say. If CJ wants to keep talking his shit, that's his right. He's getting himself over, so more power to him. I also have the right to think he's an asshole for the way he does it.
December 2, 200520 yr comment_4051805 I agree. Trying to spice up a league that is totally against having fun of any kind is completely wrong. Because, y'know, "putting" the football after you just burned the defense is completely arrogant and asshole-ish.
December 2, 200520 yr Author comment_4051897 Hey, if CJ wants go on Dancing With The Stars next season, I'm all for it.
December 2, 200520 yr comment_4052960 Just because you have a team that runs a 1950s offense, doesn't mean every other player in the NFL should act like 1950s football players. Let the damn players have fun; they work their asses off all week, and it's not like no one finds this entertaining. Only your boring ass.
