Posted August 27, 201411 yr comment_5621582 This starts with clips of Slater beating Valentine for the US Heavyweight Title on 12/21/83 and this is extra material not a nomination. Slater is with Tony Schiavone next in a locker room talking about how he is a double champ then he is joined by Don Kernodle & Bob Orton Jr. with their newly won NWA World Tag Titles. Slater then gives his Mid-Atlantic belt to Ivan Koloff proclaiming him champion. (January 1984) Next we get a Dusty inset promo during an Assassins squash where he says he is coming in to help Valiant in his war with the Assassins. This is followed up by a promo with Paul Jones holding Jimmy Valiant's beard which they shaved off with clips of the heels doing the deed. Valiant then runs out and attacks Jones as the crowd goes nuts before cutting an angry promo. Extra material. (January 1984) NWA World Heavyweight Title: "Nature Boy" Ric Flair © vs. "Mr. Unpredictable" Dick Slater (1/4/84) Always great to see matchups like this on TV. Flair dominates early and then we get a clip in the action to where Slater is dominating and Bob Orton Jr. is out cheering him on. Orton would grab Flair's foot and Slater would drop an elbow pinning him but Orton held his foot with Roughhouse Fargo not seeing it. The heels celebrate but Tommy Young comes out and tells him what happened with the decision being reversed. Slater said that he is the real world champ and will be recognized. Fun angle and extra material. Then we get Charlie Brown (Jimmy Valiant) who also is missing a beard coincidentally and he says that since he isn't around anymore that he is going to vacate the NWA World TV Title. (January 1984) Dusty sends in another promo about coming for The Assassins. (January 1984) The Assassins vs. Dory Funk Jr. & Rufus R. Jones (1/18/84) Odd seeing Dory teaming with Rufus. This was okay for what it was but that's it before Valiant runs out to clean house on the Assassins. This is extra material. "Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff vs. Angelo Mosca Jr. (1/18/84) Angelo Sr. is on commentary and this match is decent mainly because of how great Ivan was. He carries the green Mosca Jr. the whole way then loses to set up a title match the next week. Dory Funk Jr., Rufus R. Jones, & "Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant vs. Ben Alexander, Tony Russo, & Bill White (1/25/84) This is JIP and a squash. Angelo Sr. is out next talking about the feud with Ivan with clips of Ivan bashing Angelo Jr.'s PWI Rookie of the Year plaque over his head. Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Title: "Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff © vs. Angelo Mosca Jr. (1/25/84) Angelo Sr. is on commentary again here. Koloff dominates the early part of this match as he wants to teach Mosca Jr. a lesson especially after beating him the week before. The less Mosca on offense the better as he was just so bad. Mosca did have a cool leglock he would use on Ivan here as some sort of modified Indian Death Lock. Jr. would hit a cross body block off the top rope to win the title as Angelo Sr. runs in the ring to celebrate and the crowd did go nuts for the finish. David Crockett is up next holding the vacant NWA World TV Title and talks about the upcoming tournament matches. (1/25/84) Next we get promos from Slater & Kernodle with Slater still whining about not having Flair's belt. (1/25/84) Flair then sends in a taped promo wearing quite the plaid jacket about Slater and all the bitching he has been doing. (1/25/84) NWA World TV Title Tournament - Quarterfinals: Mark Youngblood vs. Barry Orton (1/25/84) Orton being in this tournament is hilarious considering the other guys involved but he does make this competitive and Youngblood has to fight to get the victory. NWA World TV Title Tournament - Quarterfinals: Greg "The Hammer" Valentine vs. "Big Cat" Ernie Ladd (2/8/84) Valentine the babyface is a hoot. Ladd gets DQed fairly quickly for using a foreign object. NWA World TV Title Tournament - Quarterfinals: "Mr. Unpredictable" Dick Slater vs. Dory Funk Jr. (2/15/84) Good TV match nothing really spectacular here with Slater getting the clean pin on Dory with a russian legsweep. Dory Funk Jr. & "Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant vs. The Assassins (2/8/84) I will say this about these matches..they got a lot of heat which was good for them because the matches themselves weren't that hot. Then we get another promo by Slater about his beef with Flair. (2/8/84) Next we get clips of a Flair/Slater match from 2/5/84 where Slater beat Flair clean in a non-title match. This also features Slater debuting the true World Heavyweight Title belt which is the old Lou Thesz belt that was used in Southwest. This is extra material. NWA World TV Title Tournament - Quarterfinals: Assassin #2 (Hercules Hernandez) vs. Johnny Weaver (2/8/84) This was long but not much of a good match although the fans are hot for Weaver here. Assassin #1 would switch with his partner after he fell to the floor to get the win. Flair is out next for a promo talking about Slater and how Dick must prepare for not just him but people like Dory Jr. (2/8/84) Next we get Tony Schiavone in Ricky Steamboat's gym where Steamer is giving training tips when all of a sudden Jim Crockett shows up wanting to bring Ricky out of "retirement" by promising him a NWA World Title match against Flair on 3/17 in Greensboro. Crockett also gives him $10,000 as a bonus if he signs in 24 hours. Steamer is perplexed but can't answer. Steamer's retirement by the way was an excuse to tour All-Japan. Then we get a promo from Valentine about a Canadian Lumberjack match against Slater on 3/10 in Roanoke. Valiant is out next with Paul Jones' tuxedo suit in his hands talking about stripping him but he wants his hair. Angelo Mosca Jr. vs. "Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff (2/22/84) Angelo Sr. is on commentary here whining about people calling his son "green" which is hilarious. Ivan again does a good job in carrying the kid here before Kabuki runs out for the DQ which brings down Angelo Sr. to make the save but he gets green mist sprayed in his face before taking Ivan's calf branding.
