Posted September 6, 201411 yr comment_5623006 This is a low-end nomination. The work in the match itself was really good. That finish was dog shit. We start out with a fight on the floor. Roberts back in and catches Steamer with a beautiful kneelift. Jake was great with his little touches, and his interaction with the crowd. Steamboat in control throwing chops and double thrusts. Steamer in some great story telling focuses his attack on Robert's head in revenge for DDTing Steamer on the floor.Steamer even drops a couple of knee drops on Jake's neck that drives his fore head into the mat. Steamer also smashes Jake's head into the mat. Robert's gets in control and focuses on Steamer's neck with the short arm clothesline and a sleeper. Jake peppering Steamer with punches. We get a back and forth down the stretch that leads to Steamer getting counted out. POst match we get a brawl. Steamer puts Jake through a table and is a bloody mess. Good stuff.
June 19Jun 19 comment_6031504 RICKY STEAMBOAT vs JAKE ROBERTS (06/27/1986; WWF Boston Garden; 00:17:47) - Jake had Damian out of the bag before the match started. Awesome start. Jake is outside, grabs Steamboat’s leg but Ricky stomps on his hand. Jake misses a punch and Ricky bets him up outside. Jake is tossed inside and when Ricky climbs in, Jake hits him flush with a knee lift. Great stuff! Jake goes for the DDT but Ricky counters with some great chops. Ricky jumps on Snake with no stop karate strikes. Ricky is relentless with his strikes and he is mixing them up. Jumping from the 2nd rope. Running karate chop. Jake tied up in the ropes and getting chopped. He even runs through the ref’s legs to get to Jake who is tied up. AWESOME. Jake counters a leap frog with a punch and takes over. I don’t want to jinx it but zero rest holds, all brawling, striking and punching. The closest move was a Jake short arm clothesline. Jake just uses Ricky’s face as a punching bag. Jake tosses Ricky over the top rope and he barely dangles off the apron and the rope. He looks so beat up. Compare that to the soft, gentle landing at the Big Event. Jake hooks on a sleeper turned into a choke and Ricky counter sit with an atomic drop. This has been a war. Jake recovers with a scoop slam and ground and pounds Ricky. Jake is prepping Damian. Jake sees Ricky getting up and goes for a knee lift but Ricky dodges and sweeps the leg and Jake bumps. Ricky delivers his first wrestling moves 13 minutes in with 2 swinging neck breakers. WOW. Jake recovers and is king of the mountain. He gets posted outside. Dragon was counted out. Man, that ending sucked. EASY NOMINATION that should have been a slam dunk. This goes on but the ending hurts. Jake tries to DDT Ricky on the outside but Ricky blocks and they battle outside and Jake is finally bleeding. Post-match saves the bad ending. Top rope chop and relentlessly punching until the ref pulls him back even after being tossed around.
