Posted October 17, 200519 yr comment_3688683 I hate him more than any other athlete so I have to hear what he says.
October 17, 200519 yr comment_3688793 I heard Loudmouth Sharpe berating him on the NFL pregame show saying Romo took steriods because he couldn't compete using only his God-given talents. That's a laugh because the NFL is probably second only to pro wrestling when it comes to not endorsing but not discouraging enhancment drugs.
October 17, 200519 yr comment_3688831 I remember reading an SI column, I think it was Rick Reilly, talking about his intense vitamin regimen and praising his hard work. What a load that turned out to be. Just wait until everyone discovers that the NFL has just as bad a steroid problem as MLB, if not worse.
October 17, 200519 yr comment_3688887 I don't think any sport has seen an increase in average player size in the last 20 years that football has. There's QBs and kickers now who are the same size or bigger than linemen or LBs 15-20 years ago. How many stories are out now about doctors worried about the long term health of pro football players who carry more weight than their frame can handle? It's just not a case of more fat guys either.

If everything in Sports Illustrated was like Rick Reilly's column, I wouldn't have renewed my subscription. His stuff is terribly unreadable.
October 17, 200519 yr comment_3691846 Stories like Romo'a just give people an excuse to pile on and act like drug use in football is such a rare occurance that anyone who admits they use is a pariah.
October 17, 200519 yr comment_3694493 This is not a revelation. Romo was on a bay area radio show awhile back with Rick Barry and Rod Brooks and was saying he'd taken steroids way before he did this 60 minutes deal. But I guess since it has 60 Minutes in front of it, it gets the cred. Whatever, Romo is still a psycho moron.
October 17, 200519 yr Author comment_3694517 I think there is a big difference in being on a local sprts show heard by 1/5 of the population in that city and then admitting it to millions of viewers in a national prime time show.
October 17, 200519 yr comment_3694553 You're right on that, it's just I was surprised that ESPN or other mainstream media outlet didn't pick up and run with it back then. Then again, I think he worded himself to where he didn't outright say he took steroids a la Jason Giambi, but he did imply that he took them, which would also be a reason perhaps ESPN and Co. didn't run a story.
October 19, 200519 yr comment_3706579 The guy's actions were despicable on the field and, so far, it doesn't seem to be any different off of the field. His appearance was meant to push book sales, not show contrition or bring forward any real information. Maybe I'm reading too much into things, but where there's smoke, there's fire, and the NFL's reaction to Playmakers betrayed their image of unquestionable integrity when it comes to drug testing. At the time, watching the show, I thought it was ridiculous that players would be getting "urine transplants" so that they could pass drug tests, but then the Whizzinator makes the news. I agree with Al - the NFL could have a much, much larger issue with steroids than the media is expecting.
