Posted September 15, 201411 yr comment_5625378 Dory Funk Jr. vs. Denny Brown (2/13/85) Dory is back in the area after a 7 month absence as he is bounty hunting for Dillon. The NWA World Jr. champ gives Dory a fight but Dory pins him using the spinning toehold but won't release the hold so Slater runs out to attack Dory and sends him running. Magnum is out next with David talking about how Wahoo wants the NWA Title just like he does but they go different ways about it and then we see video of a Flair/Wahoo match from 2/3/85 in Charlotte where Magnum saves Flair from being destroyed by a Wahoo steel chair. Magnum saving Flair is definitely a fun visual and this is followed by a promo from a bloody Flair. NWA World TV Title: Tully Blanchard © vs. "Avalanche" Buzz Tyler (2/13/85) I never got how Buzz Tyler got over like he did with the fans and coming out to Footloose while bending his legs was hilarious. Tyler pounds on Tully from pillar to post early on before Tully broke out some cheapshots to get Buzz on the mat where he kept him grounded for a while but Buzz would make a comeback and Tully reeling from nearfalls. Tully put on a helluva performance here selling and bumping for Tyler and I gotta give Tyler some credit as well as he was really good in the last half of this match making it seem like a big struggle for either man to get the win. Baby Doll jumps in the ring for the DQ which killed this as a nomination. After the match Dusty confronts Tully at the stage with Baby Doll getting in his grill. Extra material. Next we get a promo with Kernodle & Magnum where Kernodle has announced that Sgt. Slaughter is coming back home to help him fight the Russians in their war. (2/20/85) "Ragin Bull" Manny Fernandez & "Avalanche" Buzz Tyler vs. Black Bart & Dory Funk Jr. (2/20/85) Quite the teams here and the babyfaces start this match very strong taking it to the heels who stooge around because of it and the fans are nuts for everything. Dory would chunk Manny to the floor where Dillon would get a cheapshot in and that gave the heels the opening they needed to take over. Bull did a good job here working as the FIP getting in some shots before firing up on Dory which was subsided by a backdrop suplex from Dory. Bull though would roll over and got the hot tag to Tyler who cleans house on both heels before Dillon would grab the ropes as Tyler was running causing him to tumble to the floor. Bull then tees off on Dillon and hits him with the Flying Burrito as Tyler & Bart brawl on the floor. This was a fun TV match but not a nomination. Then we get a promo from the Russians about Slaughter coming in and they don't care about it with Ivan saying that Kernodle & Slaughter couldn't team again because of the stipulation they had against Steamer & Youngblood in 1983. David Crockett is perplexed saying just let them wrestle but Ivan shuts him up. Next we get the great video for Manny Fernandez with the bullfighting music playing as he gets his gear on then going into Beat It by Michael Jackson. Extra material. David Crockett talks about how JCP is celebrating their 50th year as the Greensboro Coliseum is celebrating its 25th year and he announces Silver Star 85 for 3/16/85 with video of a contract signing with Kernodle, Magnum, & Slaughter signing to face the Russians with the faces cutting a promo. This is good stuff and extra material. (2/27/85) Then we get promos from Paul Jones, Tully, & Wahoo about the 3/26 show in Philly. Next we get a promo from Paul Jones where David shows a video Jimmy Valiant returning in Charlotte on 2/24 where Valiant cuts a promo seeking revenge on Jones. Jones then says that he will take care of Valiant permanently. (2/27/85) Then we get clips of Tully beating Denny Brown and Dusty coming out to confront Tully who leaves the ring immediately and goes to David Crockett yelling about Dusty coming out. Tully then sends Baby Doll down to tell Dusty he isn't coming down there which she does and she gets in his face then slaps Dusty with him returning the favor as the crowd goes fucking insane. Dusty wants Tully to get in the ring as David goes to the ring to talk to Dusty and both of them basically gloat about the situation although Dusty does apologize to all the women which is funny. This is a great angle and a slam dunk extra. (2/27/85) Next we get the debut promo from Arn Anderson who said that he is in the area to do things Anderson style stating with taking out Manny Fernandez. Extra material. (3/6/85) "Avalanche" Buzz Tyler & "Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant vs. The Barbarian & The Great Kabuki (3/13/85) Buzz & Valiant pay off Sam Houston & Denny Brown to take their place. The crowd is nuts for this but it's not good as Valiant leaves the ring at one point coming back with his axehandle to run off the heels. Arn is out with David Crockett next talking about his feud with Manny with clips of them fighting after a Manny match shown. "Ragin Bull" Manny Fernandez vs. Doug Vines (3/13/85) Total squash then Bull demands that Arn come down to the ring which Arn would oblige him then this time Manny got the best of him. Fun stuff. Then we get a promo from Valiant talking about he was raised in Philly as he talks about the Philly show on 3/26. Next we get clips of Tully vs. Steve Casey where Tully is just destroying him on the floor until Dusty runs down and brawls with Tully then almost hits Baby Doll before stopping himself where she would claw him in the eyes. Tully gets a figure-four on Dusty but he would reverse it but Doll would use her high heel to break the hold. Dusty would get beat down until Casey ran Tully off. Extra material. (3/13/85) Magnum then comes out for a promo disgusted by what just happened then talks about winning a $50,000 tag team battle royal with Ric Flair against Wahoo & Tully with clips of that match from 3/9/85 shown. Magnum then demands a shot at Wahoo's US Title inside a steel cage. Extra material. (3/13/85) Then we get clips of Dusty/Tully from Greensboro on 3/16/85 a the Silver Star 85 show where Dusty would win the TV Title. Funny thing about this is that the MX theme "Chase" is playing. Next we get a promo from the Russians celebrating their newly won NWA World Tag Titles and Ivan says that any 2 of them can defend the titles at any time. Valiant is then out with David with his Old Lady (axehandle) and says that he is going to use it on Jones and his army whenever he has to and we get clips of Valiant saving Dick Slater from a beatdown on 3/16/85. "Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant vs. Superstar Billy Graham (3/20/85) This is a brawl at the bell as SBG jumps Valiant on the floor then locks on a sleeper as they get in the ring. Valiant then dominates SBG until Barbarian & Kabuki would run out for a 3-on-1 attack until the babyface locker room clears out for the save. Next we get the debut of Buddy Landell with JJ Dillon in a promo with David Crockett and this is extra material. (3/20/85) Arn Anderson vs. "Ragin Bull" Manny Fernandez (3/23/85) This was Arn's first feud in the territory and Manny was a great opponent for him to shine against. Manny works over Arn's left arm before trying a twisting reverse senton off the middle rope which looked great even though he missed and it allowed Arn to show Manny how to work over an arm. Arn is solid here in his armwork but Manny fights back and hits a big clothesline off the middle rope to get back in the match. Manny fights back using only his right arm and he is enraged as he throws Tommy Young down twice prompting a DQ. Arn would attack Manny afterwards and kept working over his arm until Manny was pulled out. Cheap finish but a damn good match and a nomination. Then we get clips of a Wahoo brawl with Flair where Tully would get involved and Wahoo would strap Flair. This is followed up by clips of Magnum squashing guys.
