WWW March-May 1985

This starts with the last half of the Magnum/Wahoo cage match. The promo afterwards with Dillon coming in with Buddy Landell is great and shows how much they had planned for Landell at the time.

 

Next we get promos from Ivan & Krusher about being champions and everyone coming for them with clips of them destroying Rocky Kernodle. Ivan also announces that Nikita is coming for Flair. (4/3/85)

 

Then we get promos from Arn & Tully for the 4/30 show in Philly.

 

Magnum is supposed to wrestle Ron Rossi next but Buddy Landell runs out and gets rid of Rossi then gets into it with Magnum where he whips him with the US Title belt. Landell works Magnum over then sets up the figure-four but Magnum fires back and as he gets ready for the belly-to-belly Budro dips out to the floor and struts off. Very fun segment. (4/3/85)

 

Next we get clips of Arn beating down Rocky King before Ragin Bull would run out and it became a wild pull-apart brawl.

 

Arn Anderson & "Nature Boy" Buddy Landell vs. Denny Brown & Sam Houston (4/3/85)

 

What a fucking team Arn & Landell is....shit I wished they would've been aligned more often in this year before the Horsemen. Denny & Sam look good to start off keeping it competitive with the heels but soon enough Denny would get overpowered and the heels would take turns dominating him using a gourdbuster on Landell's knee to finish him off. Magnum & Bull would then run out afterwards and they took out both heels. Another extremely fun segment.

 

Then we get promos from Bull & Dusty for the 4/30 show in Philly.

 

Next we get a promo with Dusty & Sam Houston where Dusty talks about Sam having to get stiches in his head thanks to Tully. Dusty is great here showing his anger about how Tully could assault a 19-year-old kid. Dusty then takes a great shot at Mr. T and WWF in his own way in this as well. This is the beginning of the Sam Houston push you could say. Extra material. (4/3/85)

 

NWA World TV Title: "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes © vs. Doug Vines (4/3/85)

 

The fans are fucking apeshit for Dusty here. Baby Doll joins commentary during the match and says that she has hired a lawyer and if Dusty touches her again she would have him locked up and would sue him. So of course after the match she jumps in the ring and of course he grabs her by the neck but he is jumped from behind by Tully but Sam Houston runs out to help him. Tully then cuts a promo with Tony Schiavone and Dusty joins him where he would attack him sending him back to the ring for a brawl while TV time runs out. JCP TV was really hitting it's stride at this time. Very fun stuff.

 

Then we get clips of Ole turning on Thunderbolt Patterson from TBS.

 

Next we get the end of an Arn squash where he refused to break his armbar after the finish so Ragin Bull would run out to break it up his way which lead to another brawl where Arn would get the best of him by posting him on the floor before Valiant & Whatley would make the save. Then we get Paul Jones showing of his scars on his arm from battles with Jimmy Valiant. (4/17/85)

 

Next we get a promo with Jim Crockett & Dusty Rhodes where it's announced that the NWA World TV Title was sanctioned around the world now and Jim presents Dusty with the new belt which is the red belt that was used for years and one of my favorite belts ever. Extra material. (4/17/85)

 

Then we get a promo with Dusty & Sam Houston where it's announced that Sam is challenging Tully for a match on TV that day with Dusty in his corner.

 

Next we get clips of a Barbarian/SBG squash where SBG refuses to break the full-nelson so he gets DQed so that brings out Valiant with his old lady and he uses it on the heels but his old lady is knocked out of the ring. Paul Jones then grabs it and along with SBG they crush his throat with it until the babyface locker room cleans out to make the save. This is extra material. (4/17/85)

 

Sam Houston vs. Tully Blanchard (4/17/85)

 

The way they were pushing Houston was so great here as the fans were apeshit for a 19-year-old kid that didn't win many matches but the fact that he got the rub from the stars and the fact that he was portrayed as an underdog made everything work so well. Tully was also a great opponent for someone like this because he was so hateable. Tully bullies Sam around but Sam doesn't back down which frustrates Tully enough to break out a piledriver which was illegal in JCP at that time to get DQed. Damn good segment.

 

Tony Schiavone then tells David that Valiant has been taken to the hospital and he is in a serious way.

 

Next we get a promo with Dusty & Valiant with Bob Caudle where it's announced that Valiant's old lady has been banned and they were fined for the previous week. Valiant is wearing a dog collar because he can't speak and has a chalkboard to write down what is on his mind which is hilarious and he writes that he loves everyone and that "We Are The World." Dusty then calls what happened to Valiant an "act of terrorism" which is hilarious and that they were declaring WAR on Paul Jones. Definite extra material. (4/24/85)

 

Then we get clips of another Barbarian/SBG squash where Valiant would run out to attack Paul Jones on the floor and it comes to the ring where Valiant gets beat down until the babyfaces again make the save. (4/24/85)

 

Magnum TA vs. Black Bart (4/24/85)

 

Bart attacks Magnum at the bell but Magnum squelches that quickly and goes to work on his left arm. This becomes a pretty decent back and forth match until Budro runs out and attacks Magnum for the DQ. Bart then joins him and it's 2-on-1 before Magnum ducks out.

 

Next we get a promo from Paul Jones and his army about the beatdown of Valiant. (4/24/85)

 

Then we get another promo from Paul Jones about Valiant with clips of another situation where Valiant runs out going after Paul Jones again but this time Dick Slater comes out to help Valiant.

 

Next we get the introduction of Pat Tanaka who shakes hands with Ron Bass & Rocky King before their match which is interesting. (5/1/85)

 

Then we get the great Nikita training video for his matches with Flair in Ivan's basement. Slam dunk extra. (5/1/85)

 

Next we get clips of Tully regaining the NWA World TV Title from Dusty in Charlotte on 4/28/85 which is followed up by promos from Tully & Baby Doll then Dusty in the locker room afterwards.

 

Valiant is out with Slater for a promo and he is able to speak again and they talk about their war with Paul Jones and his army. Slater has a fucked up eye from one of the beatings. (5/8/85)

NWA World TV Title: Tully Blanchard © vs. Don Kernodle (5/8/85)

 

Magnum is out with David on commentary so Baby Doll comes over to him and she sends him a warning to not get involved in their business. Great to see Kernodle get a high profile singles match on TV and Tully is tremendous to start bumping and stooging around for Kernodle as the fans go insane thinking that Kernodle was going to put him away early. Tully was on the ropes before chunking Kernodle to the floor which is where he got the opening he needed to take control or so he thought as Kernodle would fight back to again work over Tully. Kernodle even got the Cobra Clutch on Tully but Tully would get to the ropes for a break. There is a commercial break during the match but it doesn't look like we missed much as Kernodle is still trying to put away Tully. Kernodle was so pesky here as any time Tully thought he had the advantage Don would take it right back to him. Kernodle though would get greedy and tried to put Tully away instead of trying to pin him so Baby Doll would jump up and tossed him off the top rope for the DQ. Magnum then runs down and he gets into it with Tully before Dusty would come out to make the save. The match was so damn good that even with the shitty finish which was done for the angle afterwards I'm going to pass this forward as a nomination.

 

Next we get Tully Blanchard with his original manager in JCP in Paul Jones where he makes a deal with Paul for the services of Abdullah the Butcher to watch his back and we get clips of Abby attacking Valiant on TBS. (5/15/85)

 

Then we get promos from the Russians & Tully for the 6/12 show in Philly.

 

Next we get another Nikita training video and the issues with David Crockett and the Russians are starting to take shape. (5/15/85)

 

Valiant gets beatdown again after a squash match by SBG & Barbarian until Dusty runs out with a trash can and cleans house then he grabs Paul Jones where Valiant tries to come off the top with the cane but Jones rolls out. (5/15/85)

 

Magnum is out next for a promo on Tully which brings out Baby Doll again to tell him to stay out of their business. (5/15/85)

 

Dusty then comes out and talks about the deal with Valiant earlier and his feud with Tully along with Abdullah. Dusty then gets so pissed he walks into the heel dressing room where he attacks Tully and all of the heels jump on him but the babyfaces would soon run in there to help and a wild brawl breaks out. Tully is out with Paul Jones again where Paul says that Abdullah is now free of charge for Tully because of his hatred for Dusty for using a trash can on his boys. (5/22/85)
