Posted October 20, 201410 yr comment_5634419 The Great Muta vs. Scott Hall (7/6/89) This had an interesting pace as they started out slow then Hall started botching spots before Muta sprayed red mist in his face then choked him with wrist tape before pinning him after a thrust to the throat. Hart & Muta cut a promo with Michael Hayes afterwards. Next we get Luger with Ross and he is wearing the darkest sunglasses ever acting like a complete douche. So good as Luger calls himself the new Dirtiest Player in the Game. Sid Vicious vs. Davey Rich (7/16/89) This was taped at the Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth which was the former home of UWF Power Pro Wrestling. Davey tries to keep it competitive early but Sid would just lay him out with a clothesline and it was pretty much over after that. Then we get the WNN with Solie talking about the Bash that Sunday night as well as news from WWF which is always hilarious. Scott Hall, "Flyin" Brian Pillman, & Tommy "Wildfire" Rich vs. Iron Sheik, Wild Bill Irwin, & DJ Meadows (7/16/89) Wow what a cast of characters in this match and Pillman/Rich made for a fun team. Next we get Funk's Grill with The Fabulous Freebirds and this is good stuff. Extra material. Terry "Bamm Bamm" Gordy vs. "Capt. Redneck" Dick Murdoch (7/2/89) This is from The Omni which I was at this show of course. Gordy vs. Murdoch on paper is a fucking dream match. Garvin & Hayes is at ringside of course. This is nothing but a slugfest early on and there are some fucking great punches thrown by both men holy shit this was awesome. There are 2 rings here because of the 2 ring battle royal later in the show so of course Murdoch would take the action to the other ring which was fun. The fans were going nuts for Murdoch's awesome punches before Gordy would go for a piledriver which Murdoch countered out of. Murdoch caught Gordy with a big elbow before Garvin would run in and dropped an elbow of his own on Dick. This match went about 8 minutes but holy shit the punches thrown here were insane and this was a total slugfest. Will was disappointed in this 7 years ago but I think this is a solid nomination. Funk then cuts an awesome promo in preparation for his match with Flair at the Bash. Then we get the Danger Zone with Hot Stuff & Sting talking about the match with Muta where Paul E. tries to get some shit started and this whole deal with Sting & Gilbert was supposed to end with Eddie turning on Sting but it never came to pass. Sting then gets a gay lisp going on prancing around talking about Paul E.'s pink panties that will be seen when he loses to Corny. Rick & Scott Steiner vs. Iron Sheik & Wild Bill Irwin (7/19/89) Robin Green (Woman) meets Rick as he comes out and he hugs her on his way to the ring. Steiners look good here especially Scott who was showing so much potential at this time. Next we get a video for War Games narrated by Kevin Sullivan and this is really well done. Flair then comes out for his last promo on Funk before the Bash and he says that one of them would die in 24 hours. This is great stuff. Extra material. Dangerous Danny Spivey vs. Johnny Rich (7/18/89) This went way longer than I thought it would and while Johnny put up a fight he got dominated. Then we get the WNN with Solie at the Bash giving results from the show. Next we get Funk's Grill with Norman the Lunatic who they got over like crazy which was wild in retrospect. Funk dresses Norman up as a clown which was wearing a Flair robe with a blonde wig with Funk saying he looks like Flair's mother. Slam dunk extra. "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert vs. "Wildfire" Tommy Rich (7/18/89) This is a scientific match since both are babyfaces and a feud that we never got a long version of. Paul E. is on commentary which is great because of the past issues he has had with them since they worked for Southern Championship Wrestling a year earlier which he alludes to on commentary. Paul is really good here getting over the story of the match especially when Rich worked over Eddie's chronically bad left shoulder. After some good back and forth action tempers start to flare a little leading to a bad looking collision sending Hot Stuff to the floor where Rich allows him to recover then holds the ropes for him to come in which pisses off Paul and some of the fans. They would start trading some hard forearms though sending Eddie back to the floor but when he would come back in he would go back to working a wristlock before Rich picked him up using the wrist and dropped him knee first on his knee. Rich would then work over the left knee with Eddie reversing a knee bar into an inside cradle this time sending Rich to the floor. Eddie then goes after Tommy's left leg and gets the figure-four but Rich would break free although he couldn't stop Eddie from wrapping the knee around the ringpost. With one minute left in the match they pick up the pace as Eddie gets a couple of nearfalls before another double collision would send both to the mat. Tommy would recover though and got the sleeper hold but the bell would ring as time ran out. This was a fun scientific type match and although I would've loved to have seen a grittier match this was fine for what it was. Low-level pick at best. Rick & Scott Steiner vs. Iron Sheik & Ron SImmons (7/19/89) Sheiky is taking on a mentor role to Simmons here and again another spotlight match for the Steiners. Gary Hart cuts a promo next with the vacated NWA World TV Title belt saying that Muta will be champion soon. Mike Rotundo then cuts a promo challenging Dr. Death to a scientific match where there will be no strikes only wrestling moves and Doc cuts a promo in retort but I think they played the wrong promo because Doc talks about a match that has happened already. Luger then cuts a promo about his issue with Steamer. Norman the Lunatic & The Skyscrapers (Dangerous Danny Spivey & Sid Vicious) vs. The Party Patrol (Davey, Johnny, & Tommy Rich) (7/19/89) Talk about your differences in teams. Tommy doesn't get treated like a jobber but his cousins do that's for sure. This went on for quite a while and the hot tag section with Tommy was fun but other than that this was a long squash match. Then we get clips from the end of the Flair/Funk match at the Bash with a promo from Funk after the show to follow. Great stuff. Extra material.
