WWF World Heavyweight Title: Bob Backlund © vs. Johnny Valiant (8/18/79) Valiant works the first 14 minutes or so of this match while wearing his ring jacket.....which is wild. Indian Strap Match: Chief Jay Strongbow vs. Greg "The Hammer" Valentine (8/18/79) I always hated these types of matches that went to double countouts. Andre the Giant vs. Jerry Valiant (8/18/79) Jerry tries but fails. Andre the Giant vs. Hulk Hogan (3/21/81) Andre is pissed at Hogan and attacks him before the bell sending Hogan scurrying to the floor. Hogan comes back in and it soon becomes a battle of bearhugs before Hogan slammed Andre which was so common at this time period that it was hilarious that they pushed the slam in 1987 as such a big deal. Andre would come back though working over Hogan's left leg before countering an Axe Bomber by Hogan then stealing Hogan's own armpad then using it on Hogan with his own Axe Bomber. Hogan is now juicing as Cal Rudman says this is legalized murder and the crowd is going nuts for this. Hogan then comes fighting back before trying to slam Andre again which failed as Andre fell on top for the win. Hogan attacks him after the match but Andre makes his own save. This was a blast with Hogan bleeding like crazy and this match would definitely classify as a HOSS BATTLE today. Low-end nomination. WWF World Tag Titles: Tony Garea & Rick Martel © vs. The Moondogs (King & Rex) (1/10/81) The action was good at the start as the faces worked over Rex's left arm and he was good at selling and bumping for them. Garea would work as FIP taking a pounding from the Dogs before getting the tag to Martel who comes in a house of fire before the Dogs start working him over allowing Martel to show his great skills of working FIP. Martel got his left arm ravaged by the Dogs and he was selling like crazy but still got the tag to Garea who was fired up taking on both Dogs by himself after he helped Martel out of the ring. Martel left for the locker room as the crowd went nuts for Garea taking on both Dogs which worked out for a little bit before the numbers game caught up to him and he was getting destroyed until Martel came back with his arm bandaged up and grabbed the Dogs' bone using it on them for the DQ. The champs then are interviewed by Dick Graham & Kal Rudman afterwards and they want revenge next month. The comeback spots were good and the Martel ending angle was good but the match was wasn't anything out of this world. Not a nomination but good for what it was.
