WWF Tag Titles Tournament - Semifinals: The Wild Samoans (Afa & Sika) vs. Dominic DeNucci & Rick Martel (9/9/80)

 

Interesting babyface team. DeNucci has the Samoans rattled early and they make a few mistakes but they would catch Dom in their part of the ring and worked him over before Martel finally got the hot tag where he ran wild and the faces were now in complete control. Dom would come back in and continued the babyface advantage working over the Sika's left arm right as the match cut off.

 

Next we get promos from Blassie, Hogan, Backlund, & Wizard for the 9/13/80 Cap Centre show.

Weird match as Sousa starts working over an old cut on Atlas' forehead and he starts juicing so when Atlas makes his comeback he just starts pounding Sousa down before beating him then keeps beating on him after the match.

 

Tony Garea & Rick Martel vs. Jose Estrada & Johnny Rodz (12/3/80)

 

This is JIP and I would've loved to have seen an extended run between these teams.

 

Next we get promos from Wizard, Patera, Backlund, & Zbyszko for the 8/30/80 Baltimore show.

 

Then we get the end of a Moondogs squash.

 

Larry Zbyszko vs. Steve King (7/8/80)

 

Squash with Tony Garea watching from ringside and he comes up to Larry after the match but Larry walks off.

 

Bob Backlund & Pedro Morales vs. Jose Estrada & Tor Kamata (7/8/80)

 

This was done to build up the Backlund/Morales team for the Shea Stadium show where they worked the Samoans and beat them for the tag titles. Albano comes out during this match and bumps for the babyfaces after the match.

 

Killer Khan vs. Manny Siaca (12/17/80)

 

Total squash.

 

Next we get a promo with Atlas at ringside with Vince where he does some poses for the fans before Patera comes out to talk shit and this leads to Atlas challenging him to an arm-wrestling match. (4/16/80)

Random note: Sylvano Sousa was once rated in the top ten of the WWF ratings of one of the Apter Mags for a month, somewhere in the late 70's/1980 time frame. I remember seeing the name at the time and wondering "who?"....then I saw him wrestle years later and wondered "why?"
