March 20, 201510 yr Author comment_5659623 Garvin and Jake booked GCW off an on from Summer 1983 till the end also
March 20, 201510 yr comment_5659624 Seems like Ole used sub-bookers quite a bit over the years. There's also a guy called Ron West who was around in the 70s. Kris, a timeline of all bookers for all the territories, would be an immensely valuable project just to have as a resource. Just GCW and Crockett would be a start. Reckon a few of us could hash that out?
March 20, 201510 yr Author comment_5659632 Ronnie West was a referee in the South for years and did all sorts of jobs with promotion. Regarding the booker timeline yeah it would be good I'll see what I can dig up
March 20, 201510 yr Author comment_5659649 JCP timeline http://www.infinitecore.ca/superstar/index.php?threadid=39135 GCW timeline with a little confusion though http://wrestlingclassics.com/cgi-bin/.ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=print_topic;f=1;t=136300 Also with the JCP one it doesn't mention that Angelo Mosca had the book in early 1984 as well.
March 24, 201510 yr comment_5660264 Kris. Spectacular podcast on the most flamboyant tag team of all time. Very entertaining and educational. Keep up the great work. Hopefully one show could focus on either butch reed or the JYD.
April 6, 201510 yr comment_5663612 Loved the show top notch. Regarding Michael Hayes playing a British gimmick I really have no insights except that I recently watched Wrestle War 92 and Hayes does that Adrian Street grabbing the top rope with both hands and doing that jumping squat thing at the beginning of the match. I actually thought to myself I bet he got that from Adrian Street. Then I hear this podcast and I thought well he may not have done much British style wrestling but I believe he picked up that mannerism from Street more than likely. Keep up the good work. I only thought I knew the Freebirds. I was maybe like a 7th grade level on the Freebird knowledge scale and you guys had PhD's.
April 6, 201510 yr comment_5663615 Got one and two mixed up, but if I never did post my final comments on this, then here they are: I thought this was a lot of fun with a lot of obviously love. I actually sort of wish it went into the decline even in more depth than it did, but that's sort of ridiculous in the face of all the great stuff early on. I don't have a huge affinity to Texas wrestling so going in depth on some of these angles were a great way to live vicariously through you guys, especially given the personal connection.
April 7, 201510 yr comment_5663930 Hayes and Pattterson as team vs Bulldogs Id love to see. Really great detail of pre world class
April 7, 201510 yr comment_5663944 Echoing everyone else when I say well done, Kris. Just wish WWE network would get their shit together so I could watch some of this stuff easier...
April 9, 201510 yr comment_5664324 Just to echo everyone that has posted, I thought this podcast was fantastic. I am half way through, and am loving it. As someone who grew up watching the Freebirds in World Class, AWA, and Mid South, I really appreciated the look at their iconic moments.
April 16, 201510 yr comment_5665053 Loved this show also. The Memphis run in 1985(?) was a complete blind spot to me. Was this concurrent with AWA? I guess I have more 80s Memphis gaps than I had thought. That Southeastern stuff is rare, I think it was buried in the middle of one of those "Goldmine" tapes RF was selling back in the day. I distinctly remember seeing the breakup & then the refusal to cut hair leading to a reunion on there & thinking it was EXACTLY the same as what they did in WCCW in 1988.
April 16, 201510 yr Author comment_5665058 The Memphis stuff was August-September 1985 concurrent with AWA
April 10, 20178 yr comment_5796503 I was talking to Pete about this, but you almost have to release an addendum based on the footage we've gotten from the Dibiase/Doc vs Freebirds feud, including two (maybe even three) of the very best Michael Hayes singles matches ever.
