Someone really should tell Russo that when you repeatedly say "I'll be honest with you" or some variation of that phrase you are telling people you're full of shit usually.

 

Yeah, I thought the same thing. He says some variation on that phrase a dozen times in the course of a one hour interview.

Flair's love of Lawrence Taylor is creepy as hell at this point. It was weird enough that Flair is a football fan who knows nothing about football, but to continue to champion Taylor after the last ten years or so is just kind of clueless/unsettling. L.T. isn't a "Nature Boy" lifestyle at work: dude's messed up.

Wrestling is full of doctors who can diagnose as good as anyone but can't treat the disease for shit.

After reading that, Loss, the first name to come to mind was Cornette. I can't be the only one.

Nash is the one I think of. He knows all the right things to say, even if they're 100% diametrically opposed to everything he actually did.

Raven would be one who offers really perceptive insights into how to work a match during shoots, in particular on the mechanics of how to sell and garner heat/sympathy. He then goes out and does the exact opposite in almost all of his matches.

 

Contrast that with Sabu, who was a great worker and one of the most articulate and fascinating guys of his era when it comes to hearing his take on business. Yet his gimmick has people thinking he's silent and crazy.

 

Really a lot of the ECW guys come off as not only smarter than you'd think, but more eloquent and savvy with regard to the business. Some would likely credit some of that to Heyman, but it's always interesting to me that he surrounded himself with people who seemed practical, yet still worked that style for little to no pay. That pop from the crowd must have been something to keep them there for as long as they were.

Finally listened to Russo. Gotta love this guy. So the reason why he wasn't successful in TNA basically boils down to they wouldn't give him money to blow up cars and hire spider handlers.

Thought part one of the long Bischoff episode was really good. Whether you buy what he's saying is one thing, but he's one of the only guys who was able to play the game at Turner and thus has insights into the goings-on at the CNN Center. He always comes off as a great talker, and you can at least understand how he got the opportunities that he was given.

Why in the world would Flair interview Bischoff? If he's going to interview enemies, Jim Herd would be way more interesting.

I saw Flair and Fiffi last weekend and teased that a huge interview was next . They wouldn't tell me it was Bischoff.

I still enjoy Flair's podcast, but I think I'd enjoy it more if he didn't have guests. The guests on Flair's pod are kind of like male actors in a porno. They're more like props.

 

Flair literally could give a shit what his guests have to say. All he does is cut them off to tell drinking stories. Eventually, Conrad reels Flair in a bit and gets in a few questions before Flair wakes back up with another tale of boozin' and whorin'.

 

Now, I love Flair talking about his past escapades. Which is why I think just making each podcast 45 minutes of Flair telling old road stories mixed in with the occasional wrestling-related behind-the-scenes question from Conrad would make the podcast even better.

I would agree that the Flair podcast is unique in that the show is really about Ric every week, not the guest. But you need the different guests every week to jog his memory and have him remember great stories. I didn't learn anything about Kevin Sullivan from their show but it might be my favorite one because of all the great stories that Kevin made Ric think of. They had an episode where Conrad interviewed Flair and it was kind of dull and stuff we've heard. But get Sullivan on and we hear about Ric wandering around a hotel naked except for the Black Scorpion costume or Sullivan lighting Mosca's boots on fire.

 

The Bischoff interview was shockingly entertaining.,I was afraid it would be another Russo deal but they had done great stories.

Yeah, that was actually the most interesting part of the show: it seemed like in the mid-90s pre-NWO, Bischoff and Flair were actually pretty good friends (or at least good "work" friends) who shared a mutual love of work hard/play hard, and did so together often. Was particularly impressed by:

• The idea that Bischoff brought Flair to the decisive meetings with Hogan and Savage, to sweet talk them into jumping ship and entice them with the idea of working programs with Ric
• That they seemingly did a bunch of freaky-deaky shit together in various hotel rooms, implicitly involving women and "partying", such that each has unspoken blackmail material on the other

I've had to let a few podcasts drop out of my weekly rotation (new job were co-workers are expected to talk to each other - gasp! ​ ) and Flair's was the first to go. I enjoyed the first few that he did, but the reasons above and my lukewarm reaction to 'his escapades' made it an easy decision.

I like how he frames the questions like "the internet's version of this story is this..." or "the common rumors around this are..." rather than openly stating them as facts based on sheet reporting at the time. There's NO way he could get away with asking 90% of his questions if he was just like Meltzer or Alvarez but the fact that he's Flair's buddy that Flair lets host the show, he's able to dig much deeper with his questions with Flair as his back-up man. It's very intersesting to hear some of the guests fill in the blanks or attempt to refute the accepted version of history behind certain events. For example I don't think I'd heard the story before about how Flair basically got Bischoff his promotion to Sr. VP.

 

Does anyone have any idea what the legit story behind Conrad is? Flair always kids him about being rich but I can never tell if it's completely false & the irony of it is what makes it funny between them or if it really is true and Flair either exaggerates it or Conrad is just too humble & uncomfortable to acknowledge whether it's true or not.

He sounds like Chad to me. I've never seen them in the same place.

Like the Hogan thing. He asked about Hogan getting money for a Monday Night Jericho shirt, but that wasn't the issue. It was that it rung up as Hulk Hogan merchandise instead, according to Jericho. Go the rest of the way if you're going to go that far, etc.

The source for that stuff they were talking about was Kevin Sullivan as opposed to Jericho.

Part 2 is pretty interesting.

Flair steps back and really lets Bischoff talk in part 2. It was pretty good. I have no idea if some of the things Bischoff says is BS or not, but he does admit to mistakes in the past and comes across as a decent guy.

Holy shit, Hogan!

I was pretty amused by Hogan claiming he would've been happy to have swapped the WWF belt 4-5 times with Flair or even with Piper if Roddy would've done jobs. The notion that he had never exercised his creative control clause prior to the Russo/Jarrett double-cross was another laugher.

Don't forget, Hogan really wanted to work Bret in WCW but Bret got concussed. You know, two years after Bret arrived.

 

In all fairness, you know what to expect from a Hogan interview at this stage. The road stories were entertaining enough.

Most interesting parts of these shows is often Flair revealing how deep his insecurities are. Today talking about being embarrassed to work out in a gym full of bodybuilders until Hulk made him feel comfortable. I mean, of course he is but that he's very open about on the show.

I like Flair's podcasts, but if he's going to do a "professional" one, invest in some equipment. Yeah, he may be on the road, but when the host is muffled from his phone, it gets annoying
