With the recent exclusive rights deals going down, a few major developers might need to find ways to produce quality sports games without player licenses. It's been done before, so my question is, what are your favorite non-licensed sports games? Here's a few of mine...

Mutant League Hockey (I never found the football version very fun)

Archrivals

Ice Hockey (NES)

Ken Griffey Jr. presents Major League Baseball for the SNES was pretty fun back in the day.

Even though you can import a Lahman database and use real players in the game, playing Out of the Park Baseball 5 with the fictional players was interesting as well.

Basketball-wise, you can't forget Double Dribble.

I ADORE Mutant League Hockey...seriously, I rented that puppy seemingly every other week when I was young. Shame I never actually brought the game though. Did find the Rom a while back though which made me quite happy.

I ADORE Mutant League Hockey

Does that have anything to do with that morning cartoon show with the mutant athletes by any chance?

Yeah, that was based off the video games I believe.

BaseFUCKINGwars!

Please tell me I'm not the only person that remembers that one.

Oh, MAN. That game was awesome. I just remember running people over the second basemen with the Tankbot or, when I bought the best pitching arm, just beaning everybody on the opposing team in the head until they blew up.

Another classic NES game that I can't believe I forgot: Baseball Stars and Baseball Stars II.

Blades of Steel, mo'fuckas.

You know, between Blades of Steel (which I think made a late 90's comeback on the Playstation) and Double Dribble, Konami had the basis for a phenomenal sports brand. I wonder what happened to make them stay away from those series for so long.

FUCK YEA! BASEWARS! I love that game, if only for the fact that you can buy like, laser guns for your players, which make the fights SICK.

Blades of Steel was pimptacular as well. And yea, MiB , I have Blades of Steel 99 for N64 . It sucks and stuff.

Even though it's kind of cheating, because almost all of the half-way decent golf games lie on the PC (Links, PGA Tour Golf), but the Hot Shots Golf series is downright amazing stuff. Spot-on physics, decent course design, crazy character animations on certain shots, tons of unlockables...just good stuff all around.
