Tim mentioned that he would consider putting Honky on his bottom 100 and so I thought he was worth a nominee.

 

He was an amazing seller and did great at commanding a crowd and making them hate him. The Blonde Bombers stuff was great.

Obviously some people have a different idea on what makes a wrestler great than you do.

Always loved the gimmick. Elvis impersonator in a wrestling context who can't play for shit. It's quite a riot. Haven't really watched his matches since I was a kid. Wasn't somebody (Matt D?) planning to re-evaluate him?

I went just far enough to decide that people who thought he was in the the worst of all time discussion were pretty much idiots.

Any man who can continue to get paid while refusing to take basic bumps even for his own finisher deserves some kind of credit.

He had one of the worst WCW matches of 1994 on PPV. I have yet to find a singles match as the Honkytonk Man that I thought was really good. Maybe one will pop up. The Blonde Bombers stuff was fun, I'll admit. He will be nowhere near my list.

I said it in jest, but Ferris is the carniest of carnies for having the HTM gimmick be a heatseeker and figure out how not to take bumps later in his career. He's at least entertaining to watch, which puts him several notches above a lot of the candidates here.

I can't recall a good HTM match ever. He was a gimmick that drew money for one year.

I did this in 2014. That seems like a million years ago.

That is one of my favorite matches and Honky is awesome in it. Its the reason I asked. I'm excited to check out the Dr X match that Matt reviewed  in 2014. 

Some of the super heated matches he had during the first few months of his reign, when fans were super pissed this dork of all people was now IC champ, are quite fun to watch. I'm specifically thinking vs Savage and Steamboat from MSG in the second half of 87 

He was a heatseeker for a short time, and cashed out on that gimmick for the rest of his life. Great entertainer and he's unforgettable. I feel Vince was all-in on the gimmick and title run but saw HTM as a one-trick pony, and HTM did not do well without the I-C belt.

WWF crowds were very loud for almost everyone during his timeframe so I don't really give him full credit for being unique in that regard.

Just because he isn't "the worst wrestler ever" (which is hyperbole) it doesn't somehow transform him into a hidden gem Top 100 worker, unless it's from the HTM, Ultimate Warrior, Kevin Nash perspective that being a good worker only means drawing money from the marks, and even then HTM's drawing power is shaky.
