September 9, 20169 yr comment_5767343 Dusty vs Gino I was looking forward to this. I was kind of expecting a Tully type of match. Then I realized the heat was on Gino and Lewin not Dusty. With that said I really enjoyed the 1st fall. It had a lot of energy. Some really fun spots. Loved the kick to Gino ass and he bumped to the top rope. The 2nd fall just went way too long. The fun wasn't there. The 3rd fall was just a finish. These guys do have a good 12 minute match in them.
September 9, 20169 yr comment_5767357 Pete, We've seen a lot of Houston matches from this era now. Is it just me or is the crowd just not all that into Dusty? I think, even in this match, Lewin was way more over than him.
September 9, 20169 yr comment_5767365 I think the case was Dusty was a special attraction and would just show up . He didn't really have an angle like Lewin had with Gino.
September 9, 20169 yr comment_5767369 I don't know. Andre's a special attraction and he's always over in Houston. Likewise, Dusty is a special attraction elsewhere (like MSG) and he feels more over there. It's not just this match but other times we've seen Dusty.
September 9, 20169 yr comment_5767375 I also think Dusty's style didn't fit in an area where the big stars through the years are Lothario, Wahoo McDaniel , and Johnny Valentine.
September 9, 20169 yr comment_5767377 Maybe he helped bridge the gap to JYD though. All I know is that they really worked to hell out of that sleeper and it didn't seem to be working.
September 9, 20169 yr comment_5767390 Even that had Dusty putting a chinlock on instead of letting Gino stooge around for him. It was weird.
September 11, 20169 yr comment_5767567 I'd be amused if Netflix's biggest issue was that new shows dried up temporarily because it's CEO had to go be a heel in Japan.
September 11, 20169 yr comment_5767590 On the Dusty note, I actually watched the Dusty/Koloff coffin match not long ago and thought it was a bit heatless for a Dusty match. Picked up a bit towards the end, but the early parts weren't nearly as raucous as I expected.
September 11, 20169 yr comment_5767597 I actually really liked Bugsy vs Lewin. Very effective stuff. It's no blip. Lewin was definitely way more over than Dusty in Houston, at least on that night. Same crowd. Same audio. It gives us a sense of how much Dusty was NOT over, actually. It wasn't just the way the mic-ing was that night. I like Lewin so much more as a babyface than a heel and McGraw played his role well. This was 13 minutes and angle-centric, but it was all really solid.
September 11, 20169 yr comment_5767651 Was listening to something Cornette talking about Jose Lothario and he mentioned that Jose used to be a boxer before getting into wrestling. I almost think that makes his great working punches even MORE impressive since most guys who have come from a legit fighting background have not been able to transition to having good looking worked strikes.
September 11, 20169 yr comment_5767688 Al Madril had a great heel line once about Jose Lothario being a boxer. Someone named JDC posted this once: "I remember Madril had a guest shot on the mic during one of Jose's matches and Al told Steve Stack (or JACK STACK according to Arman) that Jose was a professional boxer. Steve replied "he was a very good, top boxer." Madril said "Yeah, he boxed oranges down in McAllen." Al was always good for a one liner that would put you on the floor."
September 12, 20169 yr comment_5767692 Women's match from tonight was really quite good for a nine minute attraction match. Plus, Boesch calling a tapatia made my night.
September 13, 20169 yr comment_5767865 Lewin vs McGraw I liked this. Lewin is such a better babyface than heel in his work. This was just a fun brawl. I loved the angle with Gino. A fun little bout.
September 16, 20169 yr comment_5768371 Bock vs Atlas This has no commentary so I believe it has never been seen before. I was really curious with what Bock could get out of Atlas. Matt D and I were chatting and he said that it felt like Bock was working with Atlas like someone who could beat him, and not just a monster. I really agree with him. Flair I feel would have done the Sting formula with him. Here Bock was great as the World Champ. Their was no begging off. It was the champ versus #1 contender. We start off with some exchanging of holds and Atlas takes control on Bock's arm. He works it over for a bit, and then transitions onto the leg. Bock reverses it and delivers 6 quick nasty punches to Tony's leg. I really liked Bock's work on the leg. It was very rugged. Tony's comeback is good and he incorporates some leg selling here. He does drop it a bit but not overtly bad. Toward the finish it gets pretty hot. Bock is busted open and is great at the long term selling the match. I loved the finish. This was a great Bock performance, and I want to say my favorite Tony Atlas match I've seen. 3 1/2*
September 16, 20169 yr comment_5768374 Gino vs Slater This was worked pretty interesting. Slater didn't do a traditional shine. Gino would work spots and Slater would one up him. This happened for the majority of the match. Gino throws liquid in Slater's eyes to set up the heat. Gino hits him with a loaded fist for the 3. The crowd is going crazy. Gino attacks Slater post match and the ref reverses his decision. A different way to work the bout. Got a lot of reactions.
September 16, 20169 yr comment_5768376 I love the Lothario vs Great Mephisto match. A Mexican and a Muslim beat each other bloody for the entertainment of a bunch of redneck dum dums. Who booked this, Trump?
September 16, 20169 yr comment_5768496 It wasn't at all how I thought he'd work Atlas. Really interesting match. Just another piece of the puzzle. I'll do a full write up when I can. In the meantime, keep the matches coming, guys!
September 17, 20169 yr comment_5768524 Butch Reed Music/workout video. They even have break dancers on display. Total 80's goodness.
September 17, 20169 yr comment_5768554 Just to let you know - we've had to slow down a bit because we are putting so much time and effort into getting the Roku app done. And this time it will be a reality. Also - in about two weeks we are moving the operation to Colorado - so the uploads will be suspended for a few days while we make the move and set up in our new location. But we aren't going anywhere - the WWE isn't going to buy is out - and we have big things planned for the future.
September 17, 20169 yr comment_5768555 If it makes everything more of a success in the end I'm OK with some waiting. That said, I certainly would not be against you sharing one of those teaser lists next time you hear back from the converters.
September 19, 20169 yr comment_5768850 goc, Can you prioritize the Gino vs Slater match to make a few gifs out of it. There's some absolute gold in there (the transition to heat and Tully's mocking afterwards, other stuff).
