Read several boards yesterday and kept hearing about this Austin/Piper controversy, so decided to listen to Piper's podcast. While Piper and his co host Earl kept making the claim of "satire", the entire thing was harsh and personal, which I don't mind (people need thicker skin)...but was odd with Austin being the one who went to bat for Piper to get a podcast in the first place. The whole thing was just odd (although Sasso does a great Austin).

Break it down... what happened?

Pipers podcast (from Podcast One) hadn't had a new episode for a few weeks. A new episode popped up yesterday in which Piper said it was an old episode from a few months back that was pulled the same day. Piper added he was through with Podcast One and wanted to play the pulled episode, claiming it was in good fun. It was Will Sasso parodying Austin with stating, according to Austin on his podcast today, that a few things he'd liked to have kept private was spilled on the show. Jim Duggan called in as well and was fooled by Sasso.

Piper insinuated that "Austin" had "him fired", which Austin debunked on his podcast today.

It was weird for Piper to do, especially since Austin has always spoke highly of Piper and lobbied for him to get the podcast gig

Now Piper has also lost his Legends deal with WWE over this. Something must have happened between Austin and Piper after this dropped. Otherwise Austin wouldn't be so pissed that he throws his weight around to get Piper released from the Legends deal as well.

I feel a little sad for Piper as its sounded like he's never been able to get his life together and always looked a bit frazzled even when on top. On the other hand, outside of Austin's domestic issues you really don't hear much criticism of him -- that may be somewhat due to his status -- but where there are stories to be found they trickle out about names big and small. Probably too late at this stage of his life but it would do Piper a bit of good to disappear for a while.

Some of the most interesting things Austin says are about protecting his position, whether it's with Jarrett or with other people. Also, how much he regrets walking out and at the very least losing the years of income. I do think you occasionally see hints of insecurity with him.

That's the thing about these podcasts. You just see a LOT of the person as a human being in what they say, in what's not said. Austin can be more guarded since he's not shitfaced, mind you.

Why are you just automatically assuming Austin had anything to do with it? I really do not see Steve Austin calling WWE HQ and saying shit about this. Most likely they saw what was going on and saw Piper trying to start an internet feud with Austin and said "yea we're not going to pay you while you do this stupid shit"

Oh absolutely. He's protective of his position and isn't much for self-reflection outside of some jokes unless its talking about a match that may have been awful for whatever reason. But you never even seem to see anonymous whispers about how he was difficult to work with or a jerk.
