Don Kernodle vs. Baron Mikel Scicluna (5/23/83)

Kernodle is making his MSG debut here and this is an interesting matchup because both men were heels but Kernodle was a defacto face.

Mac Rivera vs. Pete Doherty (5/23/83)

The future Jose Luis Rivera gets the win here with a diving body press. Doherty and his movements were hilarious.

"Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff vs. Jules Strongbow (5/23/83)

Odd seeing Blassie manage Ivan who looks good here winning with a sweet diving knee to the back off the top rope over the sorry Jules.

Salvatore Bellomo vs. Swede Hanson (5/23/83)

Yeesh did this suck.

Iron Mike Sharpe vs. Chief Jay Strongbow (5/23/83)

The suckiness continues as these guys have a shitty brawl that ends in a DDQ.

Next we get clips of Slaughter whipping Backlund with the riding crop from TV then we get a promo from Backlund in the locker room who vows revenge.

WWF World Heavyweight Title: Bob Backlund © vs. Sgt. Slaughter (5/23/83)

Backlund is on fire to start and beats Slaughter from pillar to post which Sarge being awesome at selling and bumping for him. The MSG fans are still hot for Backlund here as he takes it to Slaughter until eating a big Slaughter Cannon. Slaughter starts working over Backlund's neck and has his reeling but Bob comes back with a swinging neckbreaker that takes them both out. Sarge though still maintains an advantage but Bob would come back with a vertical suplex. Backlund then came back with a big piledriver but he was too slow to get to Sarge who kicked out. This becomes a total war of attrition with both men trying to put the other one away with big moves. Backlund though would then turn his attention to Sarge's left arm setting up for the crossface chicken wing which he would get and the fans went nuts for this. Grand Wizard would hand Sarge his riding crop which he used for the DQ finish. Sarge when then shove referee Dick Kroll before Backlund would backdrop him and used the riding crop himself sending Sarge running. These two men had some damn good to great matches and this one was right in line with them. Not the best of the bunch but a solid nomination.

"American Dream" Dusty Rhodes vs. Samula (5/23/83)

You bring Dusty to MSG and you waste him on the lesser of the Samoans. The fans love them some Dusty though and he uses a cross body block to take out Samula who actually got a lot of offense on Dusty. This was booked like Dusty getting a desperation win which was nuts. Gorilla Monsoon then interviews Dusty afterwards which was fun.
