If Hogan wins the Gawker suit and the $100 million that comes with it, but somehow becomes such a social pariah that nobody will have anything to do with him for the rest of his life...that strikes me as the very definition of a pyrrhic victory.

Please. This will be out of the spotlight as soon as the next thing to be outraged about hits twitter.

Well I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. Paula Deen's stuff was way worse because the more you dug the more you found. I seriously doubt we're about to uncover stories of Hogan doing shit like Paula Deen's dinner party.

Since he headlined the first 9 Manias and was completely instrumental in the height of WCW's heyday. they cannot really do a scrub job on him from the Network.

They have to be more sensible.

They haven't. Rock N' Wrestling, the two Anthology DVDs in the Beyond The Ring "series," the episodes spotlighting him in WM Rewind and Rivalries are all still up.

I'd imagine this is more retooling website articles with damage control (i.e. the same thing with Punk in 2014) and whatnot than the Soviet Union-ization of Chris Benoit.

If he is going to get the "Benoit treatment" (someone needs to trademark that), he should be fine on the WWE Network but he will erased from current history. Almost all of Chris's stuff from RAW, Smackdown, and assorted DVD are still on the network except his actual DVD but they just won't advertise it.

I don't think this is a fair criticism. The point of the skit is that Vince is so clueless and out of touch that he doesn't realize what he's saying is horribly offensive.

Hogan said some really vile shit in a private conversation. Is he really a horrible irredeemable racist though? I mean I have heard ZERO stories of him refusing to work with other black wrestlers, not signing autographs for black kids, NOTHING like that. I think the whole situation is pretty shitty.

Dick Murdoch worked with plenty of black wrestlers despite being a Klansman. And Strom Thurmond had a black child. Racism is a continuum, not a binary state.

Well I think it's pretty insane to compare Hogan to a noted Klan member or Strom Thurmond considering we're talking about public racist actions against something that no one would ever even know about if there weren't terrible websites like Gawker out there invading people's privacy.

As a black man, I'm not surprised but disappointed in Hogan for saying those things cause he got me into wrestling as a child.

For WWE, getting rid as judge of Tough Enough is the right move coming off them voting off the only black contestant they had. However for WWE to get rid of any reference of him on their site is pretty ridiculous since they still have Michael Hayes and oh yeah ... the guy who runs the company who like black stereotypes. And that's what most people are making fun of the WWE and Hogan in general. There wasn't a social campaign to get Hogan out of WWE like when that woman on Twitter who was sending racist tweets who traveled to Africa last year that was representing a PR firm. Just comedy cause how racist WWE has been for years now.

But the Austin thing was really pre-social media. I have a feeling that, had the Austin arrest happened today, you would get a reaction far closer to what we are seeing here. This story is piggybacking the current celebrity trial du jour, but regardless, stories like this get way more traction than they did 10 years ago.
