Posted August 25, 201510 yr comment_5694582 Kris Zellner and David Bixenspan are joined by Mike Sempervive (Wrestling Observer Live) to discuss the week that was August 18-24, 1987. Listen to us pontificate about Jim Barnett being awesome, the birth of Akira Taue, New Japan tearing up Sumo Hall, Kevin Von Erich being insane, & the Road Warriors in WWF in 1987…it almost happened!!!!!! http://placetobenation.com/between-the-sheets-5-august-18-24-1987-featuring-mike-sempervive/
August 25, 201510 yr comment_5694687 The brief Onita/Hamada/Pioneer talk reminds me that I'd love for someone to do a show (or series?) on the history of the Japanese indies. It's so hard to find information about Pioneer, Hamada UWF, early FMW etc without trawling through old Observers.
August 25, 201510 yr comment_5694726 Back to the 80's for the first time since the debut episode! I wasn't keen on Emil as a guest in the previous episode as I felt he was out of his depth when it came to Kris and Bix, so hopefully Mike will add something in the vein that the first three guests did.
August 25, 201510 yr comment_5694808 Gran Apache was more known as having a hand in training the Mexican girls who worked for Arsion. And it's pronounced "Arcy ahn"
August 26, 201510 yr comment_5694907 When you were talking Memphis, I'd hope you would give mention to the Bubba/Rocky Johnson dance on how it was started when Bubba blasted Rocky with a boom box when they had an impromptu dance off in the studio when Rocky seemed completely stoned, lol https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JOWbY9OWVAk And also, while its awesome you gave Don Bass some love in Brickhouse Brown's Truth Commission, you forgot the third cog: King Carl Fergie. Fergie and Bass had one of the classicly ridiculous angles when Fergie was Don Bass' momma and they attacked Lawler. Just ridiculous, but hilarious. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yVrQRgyKBbQ

August 26, 201510 yr comment_5694945 Washington Post article about Channel 56 In order to better serve the community, 56 solicits viewer responses as to which teams to show (the Big East and ACC are largely unavailable), sort of like all-request radio. The most popular teams are Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Michigan and Kansas. The wide geographic disparity is partially explained by recognizing that Washington is a magnet attracting people from all over the country. It may be the only city in the East where a Cal-Oregon game would reach an audience other than Dick Vitale and the Brothers Narcoleptic.
August 26, 201510 yr comment_5695026 Another great episode and Mike was a superb guest. As always incredibly informative and so much stuff that I never knew about (I'm off to google Ryuma Go for starters, then see if I can find any of that Jimmy Suzuki footage on YouTube). Nice to hear a bit of talk about Mal Kirk and the Disco Ladder match, whilst I'm struggling to decide which of Bix's two impressions was the worst (they were both pretty bad!). Roll on episode six.
August 27, 201510 yr comment_5695132 Just don't look up the Ryuma Go gay porn Go look up Fujiwara porn instead.
August 29, 201510 yr comment_5695758 Loved the Jim Barnett stuff in this show, he's such a fascinating figure.

September 5, 201510 yr comment_5697167 Really enjoying this one. It's amazing how much Mike sounds like Dylan. Put the two of them on a podcast and I doubt I could tell them apart. One thing though - any chance of time stamps? Love the WWF/Crockett/Japan stuff, but would like to save the smaller indy talk for when I've watched more of that stuff.
