A weak crop this year, but not as weak as everything thinks. There are some guys here that can really help a ballclub.

1. Mark Grudzielanek

Grudzielanek has maintained a good batting average the last few years, which is fortunate because a great deal of value is tied up in his batting average. If Grudzielanek hits .270 instead of .290, he ceases being an offensive benefit.

2. D'Angelo Jimenez

Since Jimenez was released by the Reds and not a standard free agent, he's completely off the radar. The Reds exiled Jimenez to AA after he got off to a poor start in the majors in 35 games. Some teams haven't quite grasped the concept of small sample sizes. In any case, you have a second baseman who plays excellent defense, has a .350 OBP, and is just 28 years old.

3. Rich Aurilia

Aurilia had a bad 2004. Otherwise, he's an average hitter who can play second but also help out at third and shortstop if needed.

4. Mark Bellhorn

Bellhorn's a truly frustrating player, hitting 27 home runs one season and hitting .210 the next. One thing's for sure. With Bellhorn you'll get plenty of walks and some power.

5. Tony Graffanino

A godsend for the Red Sox, but also another hitter who saw his overall stats inflated by Fenway Park. An average player at his position, but can also play anywhere in the infield.

6. Miguel Cairo

7. Damian Easley

8. Bret Boone

9. Frank Menechino

10. Jose Vizcaino

I'd like to see the Cardinals throw an NRI at Jimenez, just to see if he's been humbled through last year's experiences. At worst, he's a competent glove in the middle infield who can work the count.

As far as Grudzielanek goes, can St. Louis offer him arbitration?
