Checkmate and Dragon is one of the odder teams you can think of but the contrast in their style melded together to make a fun team. Jose Lothario is someone that is receiving a huge reputation bump with the NWA Classics stuff coming out, and he delivered here with great strikes and surprising agility at points. Checkmate’s turtle and attack to gain heat on Lothario was awesome and unique. The heat segments were diverse and interesting enough to have myself and the crowd clamoring for a comeback. It was destined that this match would be a draw, but overall this is the type of match that is perfect to hold attention of a viewer across a whole hour of the show. ***

I liked this better than the McGraw/Madril match very much due to Checkmate's constant use of the turtle position in that match. It's far better as a surprise move to turn the tide than a constant tactic. I thought they did a good job of getting over both of the heels gimmicks throughout the match and giving the babyfaces enough time to shine. Madril still seems like he's not quite a babyface regardless of what everything about this match wants me to believe.

I think they missed the boat with Checkmate as a heel. We get a feeling out process. Finally they get heat on Madril. Love Madril's counter of the hammerlock. A hope spot by Madril only to get cut off by Dragon. Jose and Checkmate in and Jose hits him with great punches. Checkmate working a chin lock. Crowd rallying behind Jose. Heels cheating behind the refs back. Jose with a really nice looking back breaker. Madril in and peppers Checkmate with a barrage of punches. Heels getting heat on Madril. Overall it was an ok match. 2 1/4*
