Loss and I had a discussion the other night and he was confused on what should be considered a master tape. For example, he is converting a ton of footage from MisawaGQ that he received from Jeff Lynch. Don't get me wrong. Lynch has some awesome footage. In fact, his early unlisted U.S. stuff is awesome but this was more of a question of how you would label a show you are pimping. Loss labelled these as masters but that is not quite the case.

Here is how it works...

If Jeff Lynch has a show listed as a master, then it means he has a tape purchased from Japan that is either a commercial copy or taped directly from Japanese TV and sent to him. Once he makes you a copy, that footage he sends you is a 1st Generation tape. Loss assumed that you would stil lcall it a master because except for an elite few, most people are going to only have 1st gen copies anyway. However, in this instance you would simply label the tape as 1st gen. and not a master. On the other hand, if someone converted a master tape onto DVD and sent you a backup copy, this could be called a master clone since there isn't the generation loss on DVD that you experience on VHS. I hope this clears up any confusion and helps people label thier shows appropriately.
