The wait is over! Kelly and Marty bring you part 1 of their long-awaited look at the sensational Strike Force vs The Islanders feud of 1987. No stone is left unturned, as the boys look at the build towards this epic battle. Follow along as the Islanders turn heel, Tom Zenk leaves his partner high and dry, Ricky Martel goes at it solo, and finally, Tito Santana enters the fray. Part 2 (dropping in a few weeks) will look at the war between the two teams in various cities in the Northeast.

I have yet to watch the matches, but I am just wrapping up the podcast. On Marty's point about the build of the feud, it doesn't seem like it's a coincidence that Santana was involved in a feud like that. His Valentine singles feud is also well-remembered, seemingly for a lot of the same reasons. Also, it seems like Martel is big on putting a lot of energy into his matches, which makes you think he's willing to invest more than the average wrestler into a feud or match. So you put them into a feud with guys who are going to put the effort in and it's going to pay off.

Going to have to watch this Martel vs. Tama match.

I remember reading a year or two ago when Marty was talking up how great this feud was in the microscope thread and he was right on the money. I honestly didn't remember much about it until reading that and revisiting some of those matches. Really good stuff. Can't wait for part 2 as it will give me a reason to watch these again.

I think this feud worked cause Martel and Santana invest themselves in the new team right away. And back then, faces were faces, and fans loved them for it.

 

The Malenko/Scotty match that Marty mentioned is a corker.

Marty, I'm curious about a point you made at the end of the show.

 

Were you saying that WWF traditionally didn't book matches differently at the beginning, middle and end of feuds? Or were you just applying that to tag matches?

I'm trying to find out if there is any story behind what actually happend with Tama as someone I know is friends with his Son (Jacob Fatu he's actually pretty good himself for a young wrestler) if I get any info I will for sure post it here as soon as I get it.

Is their 87 MLG match out there? Having a real hard time finding that one.

I'm not sure about that. I want to say I've come across it before but not sure
